Those with kids

Published

Just wondering how many of you have kids while you are going through your pre-reqs/nursing school? Especially young ones. I am kinda nervous about doing this with two young kids, but judging by the screen names I'm seeing, there are alot of you going through this with at least one kid. How's it been for you so far?

Also, just wondering about age. I'm 23. I'd love to talk to some other moms (or dads!)

Congrats. You sound like me. I know I can do it. I am just trying so hard to find a 3rd shift job. With the cut backs the classes that I need are not being offered this summer. I know I can do it, Thanks for the reassurance and your story.

I know lots of people that are doing this with kids. I work full time and go to school at night and have a 13 year old and 11 year old that have all kinds of extra after school activities. It's hard but worth it....plus at my school there are a lot of us doing it that way. Comfort in numbers.

Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi! I'm just getting started, but I have a 3.5 y/o, 2.5 y/o and 6 month old and I'm gonna be taking classes nights and weekends starting next Monday. I'm hoping there will be others in my classes that are in the same boat, cause I know it gonna be difficult and it's nice to have someone who's going through the same thing. For me, the biggest concerns are lack of sleep, and also how the kids are gonna handle the change. But in the end it will all be worth it, I hope!

Hi everyone!

Prerequisites can be done with little ones. It may be a little more work, but we can do anything we put our hearts to as long as we don't get discouraged when it gets tough.

I'm 22, and a SAHM to a 27 month old and a 10 month old. I just started prereq's this semester, and so far it's going pretty good. This semester I signed up for College composition I, Intro to Sociology, and General Psychology (all are online). I passed my English class with an "A", in sociology I currently have a "B" (which I hope to bring up to an "A") and in psychology I have a 99% plus 20 e.c. points for safe keeping.

Over the summer I plan to take Human Growth and Development, a Humanities elective, and Nutrition. In the fall I plan to take Chemistry, and A&P 1. In spring 2010 I'll take Microbiology and A&P 2. Then I'll be ready to apply to the nursing program at the local C.C.--hopefully getting excepted for fall 2010. (During the summer session of 2010, I plan to take pharmacology to try and get a bit of a head start on nursing school.)

My husband works long days. He is usually gone before anyone wakes up and is home after 6:00 each night. I don't have anyone to take the kids for me, so I usually get my work done when they nap, after everyone has gone to bed for the night, or during quiet play time. Another way I get to read through chapters is when my 10 month old is down for his AM nap I sit with my 2 year-old, in her room. I have my book and read through the neccessary chapter, and she has her books and "reads" them, or draws in a notepad. This way she doesn't feel left out and I can get done what I need to. By the time I start nursing school I'll feel more comfortable with putting my kids in daycare, so that's where they'll be when I have school.

Good luck to all you fellow parents!!

You have encouraged me!! I never thought of using the crock pot, but it makes perfect sense... You mentioned that you pray alot....GOOD...because my husband is just like yours, he loses patience easily and there were times when I really wanted to leave him, but I prayed and God has helped me to see my husband through God's eyes... because I didn't like what I saw with my own, lol!! I got a book called "The Power of a Praying Wife" and I began to pray everyday for my husband's specific needs, and after exactly 8 days of daily prayer, my husband came home and said something to me that only Giod could have caused him to say!!! Prayer really does change things!! Keep praying, and you will make it through. I just began my very first nursing clinical, (we need 8 to get A.S in nursing) I passed my first exam with a 79 and I'm so thankful to God!! God bless and keep you!!

This is very inspirational, since I have 3 ages 4, 3 and 2 ... so we're always busy looking for things to do. The hardest part for me is finding someone to watch them while I have clinical and my husband is at work (he's working a midnight shift while I finished up pre-reqs). Now that clinicals are here, finding someone to watch the kids is difficult. Who babysits from 5am to 10am?? Possibly thinking about switching into an evening program where availability is easier. Good luck to all of you!!
