Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Published

Hello! I have an interview with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to be a nurse, and I was wondering if anyone has worked there (or had clinical) and had any opinions to offer. The faculty at my nursing school had praises for the hospital, so I was just looking for a closer opinion since I'm from out of state. Thanks!

I have no experince working at Jefferson, but as a citizen of Philadelphia I can tell you that the hospital is highly praised and extremely difficult to get in to. If you have an interview, you're obviously doing something right (I am a medical assistant and have been trying to get in for a year now.) Its a great place! Good luck!!!

I had a rotation there, and I liked it a lot. The thing that struck me the most was that the nurses there were younger (20's - 30's) compared with other hospitals I've been to. That was a positive in my eyes, the floor seemed more energetic for that reason. Could have just been the floor I was on though.

Are you a new grad, or just changing positions?

This is good news that they are interviewing. Jefferson has had a hiring freeze for a while. When I'm done with school, I hope to work for Jeff or Penn, but heck, I'll work anywhere I can to get that experience!

Best of luck on your interview! Jeff is a great hospital, IMO. You'll see everything there that you would expect to see at a large teaching city hospital.

I'm in! I will be in the nursing program this fall!

Specializes in ER, Step-Down.

my uncle had a triple bypass at Jeff right before Christmas. I went down to visit him in the CICU and wow ... I can't complain about the CARE he received! The staff seemed excellent. I'm just used to working in a hospital that's non-profit so has lots of money to put into upgrades so the environment of Jeff was a bit shocking. I'm just a bit spoiled like that. =P But what are a few dated monitors and pumps when the care is good, right? :)

I used to work there in '07 in the Neuro ICU in the Neuroscience building. I also had my critical care clinical rotation there and I was in the SICU and Neuro Trauma ICU(main building) the most and loved it. It's a great hospital to work at. The nurse recruiter is a total *****(excuse my language) but its true. I didn't interview with her thank god but I interviewed with the nurse manager of the neuro ICU who was really nice.

I really wanted to work in the neuro trauma icu on the 9th floor of the main building but there was a waiting list so I took the other neuro icu to get my foot in the door. I also liked the SICU but they didn't hire new grads at the time. The one thing that sucks about Jefferson, is you have to pay full price for parking most of the time. You can buy tickets at the book store for different garages in the city around Jeff but they only take off like $3. The other thing that sucked was the city wage tax that was taking approx $500 out of every paycheck but thats anywhere in the city. You may start off at $30 or so per hour but you have to factor in city wage tax, parking, and gas too. I didn't think it was really worth it.

I work here.. I love it!!!

I would love to work at TJH ,but, i never see any opening for New Grads. I was wondering if any one had any direct contact with the nurse recruiter there. Please help.

They have had a hiring freeze for a year now. Last year, a Jeff nursing student told me the Jeff hospital nurse recruiter told their class not to bother applying for jobs at Jeff!! I don't know if the situation is any better now. :( I'm starting at Jeff school of nursing in May.

I'm almost finishing my BSN at Jefferson University and desperate for a job, I went to the on-campus job fair for TJU students early this March. I've talked to many hospital representatives -that I'm a RN with no experience graduating this May with BSN- and the replies were same. Hospitals are not particularly looking for a new grad, there are very narrow openings for new grads, or that I might want to look through the web site for updates on career opportunities, etc. I felt so bad. Even Jefferson nursing recruiter said that they are not hiring any new grads right now. I've heard the same thing last October when they held the on-campus job fair. :crying2:

I'll be starting at Jeff this May, and this has me very worried. They had better do something about this, even if it just means holding forums about creative ways to get a job, or thinking about the kinds of jobs for new nurses that aren't in hospitals, etc. Otherwise, people are going to start looking at that big, fat tuition bill and say "I don't think so".
