Thomas Edison ABSN Spring 2018

Published

I was wondering if anyone else is applying to TESU accelerated nursing program for spring 2018.

Yup!! Can't wait... been a life long dream and I've been in retail for 17 years í ½í¹„ You?

Im supper nervous. I have a son so not being around him is seriously going to suck. I'm a program specialist love the job but always wanted to be a nurse. I'm still waiting for her to send me the info on the STARS program. Do you know what day in feb that is ?

I know they said it was the last week. I have a work trip so I won't be able to attend. I know the first term will be the most difficult so if you get a routine down in sure you'll be able to figure out how to be there for your son and the program. A year goes by fast!

Hey everyone!

I just got accepted into the program today. Looking forward to meeting everyone

Congrats!! Will you be going to the STARS program?

Since the program is accelerated, you have to put a lot of effort in for studying. Instructors expect that you do the reading BEFORE showing up to lecture- you can't just study from the powerpoints and expect to get an A on exams. If you are prepared and make an effort, the instructors are willing to help you. If you ask them a question that was in the reading (not a clarifying question, but a concept that would be easily understood if you read the chapter) then you're going to make a bad impression like you woudl in any class. Does everyone do the reading? No. Do the people that do the reading pass? Yes. You may not have time to read every chapter assigned, but at least look at the chapter summaries, bold words and charts/images. Be proactive if you are struggling- don't wait until after the exam to ask for help.

Online classes are not hard content wise, but they are quite time consuming. Read the directions and rubrics very carefully if you want full points. Online classes are on topics such as research or informatics. You will not be learning the "real nursing" stuff online like pathophysiology and assessments.

I like the program and am really happy I picked this school. I'm so pumped that you get you graduate with a BSN in 12 months. It is not for everyone but if you can put your life on hold for one year and focus soley on studying, you'll be fine.

Did you buy the same book edition that they asked for? Like for your kozier & Erbs fundamentals book ?

I highly recommend fellow students live close to school, some of my classmates live 2 hours away, they commute everyday 4 hours a day. It's been really tough. One day before clinical days, you need to come to hospital to greet your patients and look at the chart. Some of the days they just ask you come in just for an exam. The clinical starts at 7am.

I have just graduated and passed the NCLEX. I have a studio apartment right next to the nursing building, my lease is until the end of March, if any students from April cohort is interested in please PM me or send me an email at [email protected]

Congrats on passing!!! Can you give any tips

on how to manage the program?? I live 35-40 min away so it's not too bad for me. Thank you! And good luck!!

Did you work while in the program ?

No, I quit my job right before the start of program, I know some did work through the program, I believe if you can work while you are in the program totally depends how much experience or knowledge you have with nursing. I don't have any kids either, so the only thing I do is study. Program is very intense but I like it also give you a lot of time on your own. Online classes are very time consuming, but not hard.
