I graduated from nursing school in May 2013 w/ an ADN. I live in Eastern PA and have been applying to jobs since before graduation and have not been called for 1 interview. I have been applying to all areas & shifts in any setting w/in 50 miles from my house. My calling is maternity/LD/OB. I was wondering if there is a more of a need for RN's & if it would be easier to get a position in GA, esp in women's health. I am starting online BSN classes in May & I am hoping that having on my resume will help too. I also have to make sure that my husband can find a job too, he's a history teacher. Thanks!

Congrats on passing!!! I don't think the "need" is more different here than up north but I do know hospitals are hiring. Getting into a speciality will always be challenging but its possible. I know quite a few people that graduated and went to straight to L&D or M/B at Northside but they did have have a BSN. I think you should look into residency programs. Some app. deadlines may have passed but that's how a lot of people I know that have ADN's got into the field they were interested it. It's still competitive but worth a try. I think hiring is in certain periods though so I would go to every hospital website (near where you are interest in residing) and apply, apply, apply!
I think gwinnett county made an annoucement that they would be hiring lots of faculty this fall so again, depending on which part of GA you are considering, I think your husband will be able to find a job.
Definitely check out some of the other threads & good luck :-)

I work at Northside and they like nurses with 2 years of previous experience. (I know right, how do you get the experience unless you are given the opportunity?) They do have a residency program for newly graduated nurses but I think Concrete Rose is right, most hospitals do look for those new nurses in the fall for their residency program.
