Thinking of moving to the Palm Springs area...?

Published

I am a RN (3 yr.diploma program) with 6 years of exp.(Canada & Texas) in ER, OR & PACU. I am from Niagara Falls, Canada and my wife and I are seriously thinking about relocating to the Palm Springs area. Has anyone worked at(or know anything about) these hopitals: Eisenhower Medical Center, Desert Regional Medical Center (Tenet) and John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital (Tenet)? What salary range can I expect? Any info on this area would be greatly appreciated.:) :)

My mother lives in Palm Springs and let me tell you...they do not pay well at all. You would probably be taking a pay cut to move there. Eisenhower is a great hospital, I am not sure about the others. The problem with Palm Springs is...One, the cost of living used to be low, not any longer. They are still paying for that low cost of living, though it is not cheap to live there. Are you an RN? I am not sure what you are making now, but of all the areas in Southern California, I would bet that Palm Springs is the lowest pay scale.

Hope this helped some.

This must be why Desert Hospital is always looking for travelers. Thanks.

I'm not in Palm Springs, but not too far away... It gets very, very hot there in the summer (like 120F)! Relatively few people stay there on a permanent basis. Seems like they always need nurses, though.

Palm Springs has seasonal increases in population -- "snowbirds". Many retired and non-employer-dependent folks spend the winter months in the desert (Palm Springs, Hemet, Indio, etc.) and then return to cooler climates in the summer. They use travelers to fill in the extra staff needed for the higher census seasons.

They also get nurses that are military spouses from the base at Twentynine Palms. Sometimes they are very temporary.

Also, the Tenet facilities are notorious for high turnover in staff, but those facilities are due to change hands since Tenet is selling.
