Theatre Nursing and RNFA

Published

Hello all!

I am currently graduating from a BSN program in Chicago, IL in May 2006. However, I will be getting married and moving to the UK in 2007. I am interested in working as a Theatre Nurse after graduation and am looking for some help.

First of all, what is the need for Theatre Nurses in the UK? I'm worried about finding a job when I make it over there!

Also, does the UK have Registered Nurse First Assists? I am very interested in continuing my nursing education and I know that this is a possibility in the US, but I cannot find much information in the UK.

Thank you everyone.

Amy

Try checking out this website: www.afpp.org.uk. It is the association for perioperative practice.

I used to work in Theatres and there were always vacancies! It is an area that is very difficult to recruit into in the UK.

The UK has introduceed the role of First Assistants, but the education is not widely available at the moment (although many nurses have been doing it for years without any further education)

Thank you so much!

I've been worried about getting a job in the UK and you've definitely helped me out.

I love the Theatre but was worried that maybe I should do something more broad like ICU or Med-Surg. But I feel like my passion is in the ORs and would love to become a First Assist.

I will look into all of this further.

Thanks!

Amy
