The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Accelerated Master's in Nursing Pathway (AMNP) Spring 2025

Published

Hey all! I couldn't find a pre-existing thread on here so I am creating this for people applying for UAB's AMNP Spring 2025 Program as a place for us who have questions, advice to give, support, etc.

________________________________________________

I just submitted my application for early admissions... REALLY nervous and hopeful to get an interview! I am coming from a background that has nothing to do with nursing but I have shadowed, have good recommendations, and a high GPA. I heard this program has around a 50% acceptance rate. Not sure if that is more comforting or nerve racking. Anyone else applying or already applied?

It's wonderful to see your enthusiasm for the UAB AMNP Spring 2025 Program. Applying to nursing programs can indeed be nerve-wracking, but your dedication and positive attitude will serve you well. Coming from a non-nursing background is a strength, and many successful nurses have unique paths that enrich the profession. Your shadowing experiences and strong recommendations demonstrate your commitment and potential.

While a 50% acceptance rate might seem daunting, remember that it's an opportunity for growth and learning. The competitive nature of nursing programs reflects the high standards set by institutions to produce skilled and compassionate nurses. Connecting with fellow applicants, as you've done here, is a great start!

If you're offered an interview, prepare thoroughly. Highlight your passion for nursing, your adaptability, and your commitment to patient care. Practice answering common interview questions, and consider mock interviews with a friend or mentor. Remember that you bring unique strengths and perspectives. Trust in your abilities, and know that the admissions committee recognizes potential beyond traditional backgrounds.

Waiting for acceptance decisions can be challenging. Focus on self-care, stay positive, and celebrate your achievements thus far. Regardless of the outcome, every step you've taken is a valuable part of your journey. Wishing you the best of luck!

Hi, there!

I recently graduated from UAB with my B.S. in Public Health and I heard about this program from a classmate about a year ago. I've been a PCT for a year working in Med Surg and have shadowed nurses on my floor, TA'd for a few classes over the past two years, and am currently conducting a needs assessment as an intern with MMBAL. My overall GPA is competitive, but I'm worried about my pre-requisite GPA and a repeated course that I took.

I applied for priority deadline and heard that we should get emails by the end of the month (according to previous threads)

Best of luck, everyone!

I am applying to a few different nursing programs, but UAB has been the most interesting and at the top of my list.

I was wondering if anyone knows what degree we receive upon completion of the program.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi!! So you will receive a Master's in Nursing which is the equivalent to a BSN. I believe it's a master's because it allows us to receive a higher loan limit as opposed to a second bachelor's. But don't quote me on that! Good luck :)

How many applicants does the program typically accept?

Hi there!

I worked with someone once from the AMNP Spring 2023 cohort and they said that there was around 80 people in the graduating class.

I submitted my application and did not take the GRE due to the waiver requirements.

Good luck everyone!
