The solution to nursing's problems

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have been an RN since 1974. I have watched as our nurse managers have given bigger and bigger chunks of nursing care to high school graduates with on the job training. I have seen our profession go from taking care of patients to becoing some sort of scribe taking care of paper work. The list could go on for quite a while, but I have what I believe is the answer to nursing's problems.

The Solution

We all take the same day off. Just for reference, on February 11, 2003, at 7 amevery nurse in the country on duty goes home and no nurse comes to work. To emphasize my point no nurse, no nurse manager, no nurse clinitions, no LPN, RN, ADN, BSN, MSN, or Phd shows up for work.

February 12 we go back to work at 7 am and ask the simple question "Did you miss us??". If the answer is "yes", then we have something to talk about. If the answer is no they will probably let us go back to work and I doubt anything would change and we could continue to put up the abuse that is known as nursing.

Please share this idea with your nursing colleages.
