The "teeter" point...

at a friend's suggestion, i e-mailed one of the professors at the school where i applied for the accelerated bsn program for this may - i have already heard a "yes" from the other school i applied to, but for lots of reasons (distance, cost, etc) i don't know that i'll be able to attend that school, so it's down to this one.

after sending my overall gpa and prereq gpa (3.25 and 3.8) he responds back: "yeesh. you are right at the teeter point with that. we have 300 applicants for about 60 positions - let me look more closely at the applicant pool and i'll get back to you tomorrow" (he was at least really good about getting back to me quickly)

so now i'm freaking out and feeling like i'm going to have to wait yet another year to fulfill my dream - even the local 2 year programs have over a year-long wait list themselves, so i wouldn't be able to start anything until next may. plus, that 3.25 gpa is an entire undergrad degree plus a few prerequisite courses - even if i took 2 classes a semester from now until next year, i doubt i could raise it up by more than a tenth of a point (to 3.3) by then.

ugh - this is so frustrating! i don't know what to do. :uhoh3:

Please don't upset yourself over something that may or may not happen.

Think positive that you will either get in this one, or be able to attend the other one.

Being a professor, does this person even have a clue as to this year's cut-off GPA? He may be going on last year's, and this year's may be lower. You may be at the top.

See, don't get upset yet, try to stay positive! :)

Whatever happens good luck, & don't give up if things don't work out.

thanks for the words of encouragement... i'm trying to stay calm since i haven't heard the official word.

the professor is actually on the committee who decides who is in and who is not. basically, it's a black-and-white gpa cutoff: if it's a toss-up between two people with the same overall gpa, they'll pick the one with the higher pre-req gpa. they really don't consider anything else. one of the students who is currently in the program mentioned him as a good resource.

patience, patience! i know that if they say no, it's not the end of the road, but it sure makes the process longer!

Well, in that case, maybe he did like what he saw in your application.

Good luck. :)

don't you hate that! i've got around 110 college hours now and it's soooo hard to raise my gpa now. when i first started college 10 years ago i didn't understand the importance of a good grade and now i'm paying for it with my gpa. every a i can get now is soooo important just to help a little!

good luck and try to not stress about it (yeah, easy for me to say!) pray about it and see how it turns out.
