The "just graduating" nurse

Published

I'm seeing a lot of people I went to school with graduate. I'm starting to get offended by my fellow classmates posting pictures of themselves on facebook/twitter graduating saying "I'm a RN!"

Perhaps this is just me but in our state you are NOT legally allowed to call yourself a RN until you pass state boards, you are granted a temporary graduate nurse license. I just cringe when I see this. How did you get through 2+ years of nursing school and NOT learn this??

Maybe I'm just overreacting a little here but this REALLY bothers me. When I do pass my boards I want to PROUDLY say I did it with RN attached to my name. Graduating school is definitely an accomplishment to be celebrated, but I really wish some of my prior classmates understood the difference and why this is in such poor taste.

Who cares? Lol

I saw a girl do that once. Then passed the boards about 2 months later.

Maybe they're just excited.

You should feel soooo very lucky that this is your biggest concern right now! Once you're working as a nurse there will be so much backbiting & comments that you my feel are inappropriate you won't know what to do with yourself! One thing about life it helps to realize is other ppl are responsible for their actions & you for yours. If you really feel like what they're doing is worth causing a fuss over, then do whatever you think needs to be done to stop it. Pick your battles. Otherwise, mind your business & carry on. You'll have plenty to think about soon enough! :)

Why are you even worried about them? It's not you lol maybe they're just excited they got through something lots of people don't have the determination and obedience to do.

It would bug me and no one I know has done that. There have been posts like "Finally graduated nursing school" etc. but until you pass that NCLEX no one gets RN after their name.

I wouldn't say anything though I'd roll my eyes and move on.

This is me exactly!! I don't ever say anything about it but last night I saw 6 "friends" posting it and it reminded me of May all over again, then I started to get that irritated feeling. I'm sure I'll be seeing it again in December though too  .
