The Ohio State University MSN FNP track - video?

Published

I'm wondering if anyone has applied to OSU's MSN program and been invited to submit a video. I am guessing that they are looking for a video version of the goals statement; does anyone have any input on this issue?

Thank you!

I just submitted my video interview for the DNP - CNM specialty. Congrats to you two on your acceptances!!!

Thanks justd16! Good luck!

Nursey43 - go with OSU. you can PM me if you like!

Hi everyone! I just got an invitation to interview for OSU's online FNP program. I was wondering if you would be able to give me advice on how to prepare? Do you remember what specific questions were asked? I'm so nervous! I know a few coworkers who didn't have to interview last year for the program and got accepted so I'm wondering why I have to interview this year. Thanks for your help!

Hi keener,

I am in the same predicament as nursey43 was and am trying to decide between U of Cinci and OSU since I have been accepted to both. OSU was my dream school when I first started looking into FNP programs years ago, but now I am not so sure. It appears that OSU is more helpful with preceptor placement than U of Cinci, but U of C offers more flexibility with class scheduling (can take one course one semester and more classes another if needed). Obviously considering cost of each program as well, and OSU will definitely cost more. Would be very interested in your insight into OSU so that I make the right decision! Unfortunately, I am a new member and the website will not let me PM anyone until I am a more established member. Planning to make a decision by Wed of this week.

Thanks in advance!

grngirl88: I attended Univ of Cinci for my Accelerated BSN and I was very displeased. The BSN program was extremely disorganized and communication was exceptionally poor. The coursework did not include ANY pharm, except in our mental health nursing lecture. I could go on, but I'll spare you. While I'm sure the grad program is perfectly adequate, I never advise anyone to go to UC.

I am about to start my last year (clinicals) at OSU. I've done it all online, part time. I think the coursework has been a bit heavy on "leadership", but overall program is coordinated, communication has been very good and I'm happy. I'm proud to attend OSU; you probably know their online grad program for MSN is very highly ranked. I have three bachelor's degrees, and this is my first master's...all with student loans so honestly, cost was not a consideration. when you have as much student loan debt as i do, it's going to take a lifetime to pay off anyway. I figured I'd go for the best. you should too!! OSU!

Hi keener,

Thank you so much for the quick response, and I'm sorry I did not do the same! I did decide to go with OSU as that is the program I have wanted since the beginning. With your insight, it was a no brainer! Thanks again for the informative response.

I am very excited to start this Fall in the online FNP program! I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer regarding the program:

I understand the total clinical hours in the program will be 675, is that 225 per semester that last year or is one semester more clinical hours than another? Trying to plan ahead as I work 4 - 10 hour days right now and may have to adjust to part- time that last year. Also, were preceptors hard to find? I live in Cleveland area so I'm hoping OSU will have more resources for preceptors in Ohio vs out-of-state. I had thought that OSU set up clinical placements based on what I'd read but when I called the office it sounded like the students are expected to set these up. Was hoping for some clarification on this.

I'm also nervous about the thesis component! I did research projects in undergrad for a non-nursing degree but this seems like a different animal. I understand there is a non-thesis option, but any thoughts on this portion of the program and what is expected is appreciated. I've read what I can about it but a student's perspective would be great!

Thanks in advance!
