The most inspiring thing for the last clinical day

I'm a clinical instructor and I want to hear from nursing students--what is the most inspiring thing we could do for the nursing students on their last clinical day of a rotation? I had a great group of students and I want to send them out flying high, feeling good about themselves as future nurses and feeling like a cohesive group. What do you wish your instructors would do?

First of all, I think it's great that you are here and willing to accept thoughts from other students. Some folks I've heard, are not. Anyway, I'd like my CI to discuss improvements that we've had in our work. Or, if you can get a hold of previous reviews, maybe discuss what we have improved on or do really well. For instance, I was given a "success plan" for medication administration during my 2nd semester. In the third, I drastically improved my knowledge and I was "signed off." But, my CI was willing to discuss where specifically I had improved.

If there was something that you saw during your student's work that you thought was really impressive, tell them about it and why. I personally enjoy hearing about what I have done that has made a difference and especially when it's noticed. I don't go out to get my back patted. But, if I go over or beyond the call of duty, and it happens to be noticed, it's nice to be recognized.

Some people like constructive criticism. Others don't. Maybe you could discuss areas of our work that could be improved upon.

You could tell them they were a great group to work with. You mentioned that. Why were they? That would feel good to come from a CI. If the nurses at the hospital felt the same way, maybe a charge nurse or another would like to pop in for a minute to thank them for their help.

Can't think of anything else at this time. Hope this helps. :D Thanks again!!

Have post-conference over a few beers at a local restaurant, I would've loved that!
