I just got the following in an email from my mom. Let us NEVER lose sight of this as nurses. Hi tech too often means 'low touch' especially with SARS on everyone's mind.

the human touch, when correctly applied, heals as surely as any medicine, surgery or herb can. i have seen it. healing touch seminars teach it. it is vital and cannot be over-stated, as long as we are mindful of cultural variances in applying touch, it is a strong tool we carry as nurses in caring for people and loved ones.
