Diabetes is not just a word, it is an evolutionary process that affects all organs, glands, and tissues. I learned the hard way while working night and day shifts, that my disorderly eating habits were creating chaos with my hormones and my thinking patterns. I was a nurse in the 80's and can't even imagine the challenges that nurses are facing now with constant interaction with a computer and the internet.
The factors that create the diabetes conundrum and hormonal yoyo, can affect your responses and relationships in all ways. I was a carb binger during my nursing career. I raided the crackers and apple sauce in the snack fridge many times. I tried to fit my greens and proteins in during the day, but night shift was a mess. The gifted candy and food that showed up in the nurses station, the hospital gift shop and vending machines were a ticket to the bathroom, for IBS, and eventually the ER. Headaches turned into migraines, stomach aches turned into pancreatitis. I was a clinical nurse for 8 years, last rotation in Cardiac ICU, post op care. I loved my brief nursing career. I married a surgeon and had 4 children shortly after. For all nurses, my suggestion is to food prep and plan around self care. It can prevent you from being that patient you are caring for.
Diabetes does not discriminate. Take measures now to secure your future health.
Sending love to all who are who are serving the nursing profession clinically. You are appreciated.

I LOVE this advice! I've made a rule for myself... I don't participate in the unit parties and pot lucks. It's hard to resist all of the cream cheese dips, chips and sweets once you start eating. Sadly, I've had a lot of passive aggressive coworkers since I've made that choice. I hear a lot of snarky comments about "being too healthy". It's so sad how we undermine each other in this profession.
I call this health shaming. Although food is just one variable in diabetes, it has the greatest impact, when mindful eating habits are considered. It can be difficult to be around those who do not share the same passion about wellness. Stay connected who are committed to wellness. As a health coach, I have learned that any step toward self improvement is a good step. Sending you strength to carry on.
Covid vaccines should be a choice not a mandate.
