The CNA/RN woes... reversed!

Published

I find it funny that there are some pretty lengthy posts on here that highlight frustrations RNs have about CNAs and their lack of knowledge. I couldn't help but laugh when I thought about all of those MDs out there that viewed RNs the same way!

So it's a cycle, we're (RNs) upset with the CNAs because the CNA doesn't understand the level of knowledge RNs have. MDs are upset with RNs because of OUR (RN) lack of knowledge.

So anyway, I think this really highlights that we should really, I mean REALLY, work diligently at working as a team. :o)

None of us are perfect and some of us here need to remove themselves from their pulpit.

You are so right about the teamwork, everyone should work together. Unfortunately sometimes people don't. I worked at a LTC facility where the CNA's didn't.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

Unfortunately, you can't make other people work as a team. When people come here to vent, that's generally what the problem is. They should feel that that's ok to do without being "reprimanded" for it.

Obviously the situation goes several ways....if a CNA needs to vent about an RN they work with, they are welcome to do so also. An MD is welcome to go vent on a forum for doctors, if they so choose to do so. I don't think anyone who has posted a topic like that feels that they are "perfect," they still aren't exempt from problem colleagues. There are people that are hard to work with in EVERY FIELD. I don't find that 'funny' at all, I find it sad.

If you need to vent, post away. That's why we're here.

what would you propose to instill the team spirit mentality?

and correct me if i'm wrong, but i wasn't aware that nurses complained about a cna's lack of knowledge.

such complaints usually revolve around either defiant attitudes or an unwillingness to work hard...

or, sometimes an unwillingness to even work.

as for docs complaining about us nurses, keep in mind that most of these docs (that incessantly complain) are idiots...

and truly, are not to be taken seriously.

at best, we continue to conduct ourselves w/class, competence and maturity.

at worst, we guide the docs as to where they can stick their complaints.

bottom line:

the only way i see to create a team-oriented workplace, is for mgmt to develop sev'l "zero-tolerance" policies.

zero-tolerance for gossip, vulgarity and other unprofessional behaviors.

zero-tolerance for any type of insubordination.

zero-tolerance for incomplete or unfulfilled duties that are regularly completed within one's shift. (i.e., leaving pts in soiled linens or soaked briefs)

ultimately, team spirit and other ideals, need to be reflected through the facility's mission statement and upheld through the management and subsequent treatment of their employees.

if the top brass regards us as unworthy and expendible, then expect morale to be poor...

whereas being regarded as precious and honorable, promotes the high standards of care that should always be expected of us.

a notable component of these high standards, is the ability and willingness to work as a team.

so rather than place the burden on 'us', let's put it where it belongs.

as they say, crap rolls downhill.

we need to take that load and push it back on them.

otherwise, the 'crap' continues to roll onto and all over our pts.

goodness knows, they won't take it (as they fill out their mess gaineys)

why should we??

This thread's title is very misleading.....how did complaints from doctors about RN's slide into this???
