The C Student: Help?

One thing's for sure, stop overthinking. You're putting pretend grades over classes you haven't even enrolled in. Stop that. Take next semester eng 101 and music, have you finished math? Take stats which would be 4 units in where I'm enrolled. So from there it would be 10. From there enroll into 2 pe classes or a pe class and a service learning class. Those will help a lot with boosting your gpa (not much, but little bit helps) plus it's simply exercising and volunteering. Thatt helped for me and i'm at a 3.5 to 3.6 range

Hello, I am not doing particularly well in school, I have the aspirations to become a Nurse but my grades do not provide my goal with a lot of support. I consistently receive C's and it is utterly upsetting.

I am beginning my third semester in spring with

A: 3

B: 3

C: 7

GPA: 2.69

Unfortunately in the community college I am attending, retaking C's is not available. I have 7 more classes to take, basically the prerequisites: English 101, Critical Thinking 100, Music, Gen. Biology, Micro, Anatomy, and Physiology. I cannot take Gen. Biology until I complete English 101, thus I cannot take Micro, Anatomy, and Physiology until the Gen. Biology is complete.

To retain as a "full-time" student, I need 12 credit hours or 4 classes and I've mocked up some calculations but it still would not be exemplary.

Third Semester: English, Critical Thinking, Music, (Fill)

Fourth Semester: Gen. biology, (Fill), (Fill), (Fill)

Fifth Semester: Micro, (Fill), (Fill), (Fill)

Sixth Semester: Anatomy, Physiology, (Fill), (Fill)

Retaining three A's and one B, the final GPA would be 3.27.

Retaining two A's and two B's, the final GPA would be 3.13.

I have not conscientiously applied myself with my aspiration which evidently became my own downfall and I'm already moving onto my third semester and it feels like the end of the world! I've dug myself into this hole and it is really difficult to get out of and I am asking for assistance from a community of nurses on what to do. I understand that only I can change myself, I just feel at lost with no guidance.

My school could care less about the music class or pe which does not even give a grade it's pass or fail they were all about the sciences courses. As you can see schools differ. I would talk to a counselor at your school. I'm not sure how I could help unless I went to the same school. As far as your grades go maybe its the way you study. Do you know what your learning style is? Perhaps finding this out could help you identify easier more a efficient ways to study smarter not harder:) Good luck!

I have completed stats with a C in which I received a C in chem as well. I'm concerned that my prerequisite GPA would be too low seeing that I have gotten C's in 3/8 subjects (coms, chem, stats); the remaining 5/8 being english, critical thinking, micro, anatomy, physiology. The english, critical thinking, music, and bio are my remaining GE classes. The filler classes are the classes you have generalized, funsizednurse, in which I believed could raise my cumulative GPA by taking these cake courses but indeed all schools are different and it is unsure if the schools I consider going to will count these cake classes apart of the GPA. They could be only looking for the prerequisite GPA for all I know as stated by Mandiee. I'm going to go talk to a counselor today.

The way I learn, so far I have been reading over the material and doing practice questions, which can be time consuming and boring; I also procrastinate (STOP THIS!). I've tried out note cards and regurgitating everything I read by writing it down and I find it to be even more time consuming so I have stuck with the former (or is this laziness?). Report: The counselor noted that generally all schools count every class taken which pertains to the cumulative GPA. The counselor additionally said that although I do have a lot of C's, I'm just doing enough to pass and not doing what I should to be better. She said that if I were to study 2-4 hours a day for all my classes instead of what I do now, which is just go to class and do homework with no studying unless for a test in the following week... that if I were to put in effort and make it a habit now than later because classes are just going to get tougher, receiving A's and B's will be no problem because I'm pulling C's with no effort already.

I'm just now concerned about how much more extra time with classes I need to take because of the seven C's that I have.. to break even at getting to AND above a 3.2 GPA because one A and one C is a 3.0 and two A's and 1 C is a 3.33..

First off, in my opinion you should change your username. Do you want to be a C student? Maybe try "TheAStudent" and if that's taken try "InspiringAStudent." I say that because you need to stop selling yourself short. I know good grades are important when applying to competitive nursing schools, but you need confidence in yourself. Reevaluate your study habits, constantly make appointments with your professors to review previous exams and/or lectures, form study groups and share notes, etc.

Btw, I had two C's for my prerequisites: Chemistry and Microbiology. I decided to retake Micro and got a B+, but I thought my chances were tougher getting into my BSN program. I was wrong. I got in, made it through nursing school, passed the NCLEX, and now I'm a working nurse. I had to learn to put a little faith in myself during the journey.

Hello! I feel your pain. I just finished this semester with a C in chemistry and was devastated! But glad I just passed because my teacher was really tough. But I got a D in A&P and had a panic attack because I was hoping to do real good in there but unfortunately I will be taking it again next semester. Don't beat yourself up just keep moving forward and try harder.

The school that I want to go to the GPA counts around 30% and the TEAS V test count for 60%. So look into how the schools that you want to go to work those numbers out. If it is like the school I want to go to, you can get your GPA up and study like crazy for whatever test you need and rock it and you may be in. Good luck. If there is a qualifying test, really study like mad, it can be your saving grace.
