The annoying classmates

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am in my 9th week of A and P and ready to pull my hair out! :banghead: It is my fault for not speaking up sooner, but I have a hard time speaking up, so I just grin and bare it. Please give me some advice on what you would do. The first person is the girl that sits next to me. She is 37 and she texts on that cell phone all the time (even during tests). She plays the drum with her pen on the desk craks her gum and chews it like a cow. She happily does homework for students that pay her!!! C'mon...she's suppose to be an adult! Then I have the high school sweethearts:redbeathe that sit behind me and talk the whole time and click their pens the whole 2 hours! There is not a closer seat to sit in, so the only thing I could do is tell the instructor. I hate the idea of looking like a tattle-tale. I'm 41 and paying out of pocket for my classes, so I really can't afford to retake them. Thanks for any suggestions.

lol, i have a similar story. in my class theres these girls that laughs uncontrollably during lectures for at least 5 classes... then last week this one lady got pretty angry because she was trying to pay attention but the laughing girls kept on distracting her. so while the class was quiet, she raised her hand. the teacher thought she had some questions but instead the lady told the girls to have some manners and act like college students and stop wasting her time and money. the laughing girls stopped laughing from there. after that lady's speech, people were supporting her and stuff....

the point is, it only takes one person to stand up for the whole class

In my Anatomy lecture, most of the class is texting nonstop throughout the class. Many people are texting other people in the same lecture. It doesn't really bother me since everyone's phones are on silent but it is sad that this happens. This is an extremely hard class and almost everyone in the class is pre-nursing or other health-care major. Hopefully these are the people who will get the C's and F's and make room in the nursing school for me when I apply.

Hi Everyone,

I have been there! Wow. I thought it was just me. The texting and full-on convos in college (and a pre-nursing course - no less) boggle me. How does that student text during the exam? Doesn't your instructor walk around?

I agree with other posters...you need to talk to the instructor. I am sure he or she would announce the distractions in the next class.

Good luck to you. Everyone deserves to learn in peace and quiet...you are paying to hear the instructor, not your classmates. Plus, you are working on your life! Getting into nursing school!

I feel your pain. You have every right to say something since it is really interfering with your ability to learn. Those students sound obnoxious and probably won't make it through Nursing School. Good luck!
