After losing his parents, Roscoe, a 3-year-old orangutan, was so depressed he wouldn't eat and wouldn't respond to medical treatment. The vets thought he might die from sadness.
The zookeepers found an old sick dog on the grounds of the zoo where the orangutan lived and took the dog to the animal treatment center. The dog arrived at the same time as the orangutan was there being treated. The two met and have been extraordinarily close ever since. The orangutan found a reason to live and each of them always tries his best to be a good companion to the other one. They are together 24 hours a day. They live in Northern California where swimming is their favorite pastime. Although Roscoe (the orangutan) was afraid of the water, the dog has actually taught him to swim. It's incredible. The two of them are absolutely inseparable.
