I just want to thank you all very much for the job you are doing and for everything it takes to be psych RN, because only a very special person can handle it. I got the true appreciation for what it's like when I took care of a mentally ill female patient with serious surgical problems, I did it for 3 months in the hospital and it was the most exausting experience I've had in 3 years.

Keep up the good work and don't forget to take care of yourself! :bowingpur

Thank YOU so very much for the kind thoughts..........seeing this was perfect timing especially with after the evening/night I had last night............I put in well over 20 hours...............and within 15 min of HS meds/snacks and getting patients into bed......the unit "exploded"...........two physical holds to the floor on one end of the unit, eruptions going on on the other part of the unit..............I ordered PRN IMs for two patients right off the bat.......to keep from seclusion and more physical holds.......................then right after that, the two physical holds to the floor (we do not do restraints on my unit ) one was put into seclusion. The other physical hold was still struggling with SIX people on (two campus officers and myself along with two psych techs)...........(this was an 11 yo)...........after 1/2 and IM PRN, and still struggling (but not as much since med was kicking in), into seclusion. Then another one, just rturned from Home Visit and hadn't been on the unit 20 minutes, ended up in seclusion (to his room, since we ran out of seclusion rooms) .............it was a nightmare...................but we handled it very well.......my staff was awesome (had two new techs who had never EVER worked our unit before who were sent to us from the acuity pool).............since my LPN med nurse decided to "call off sick" the entire day, that left me to do meds most of the day; however, our regular night shift nurse was working an extra shift on one of the other units, and we coordinated that if I needed her assistance (since she was an extra), she sould come over and help me. Well, she ended up just coming on over to do the HS meds without me asking her (we both must have sensed something was going to happen)....had I not had her to do the PRNs........................and I had to do it PLUS...................argh!................................Yeah, we were "rockin' 'n rollin'" for sure........................becoming quite the norm of late, but this was the worse in a awhile time.................so by the time all was said and done.....................3 seclusion (technically really 5, but..............), 3 physical holds with two "take downs"...............and then the rest of the "activities"............................all in 15-20 minute time period for the bulk of it.................

So it is GREATLY appreciated to read a "thank you!" We nurses should always be thanking each other regardless of our chosen profession.............we are a TEAM!!!!! So, I thank YOU in return!!!!:yeah:

Cheers
