I stumbled upon this forum while searching for anything I could find regarding men who have considered and completed a career change to nursing. I began college in a Pre-Med track but instead was sidetracked by the percieved "glamour" of politics. After having a family and running the political circuit for awhile, I have come to the end of advancement where I am, having not gained the satisfaction that I was looking for. I am 35 and have 3 small children and feel like starting over in a new career is necessary and I have wasted so many years. I start my Associates program in September and am pretty psyched about it. I considered an accelerated BSN but cannot afford to take off work for one year while I do it. My mother was a intensive care nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago many years ago. She encouraged me then to do it but I didnt listen. After reading many of the posts here, I feel more confident that I am doing it for the right reasons and I am not alone. Again, thank you and I look forward to reading more about your experiences and learning from your advice.

Welcome, and you did make a good choice.
Like you, I'm 35 and starting as a second-career student. I too came to a dead end, in the field of scientific research. I really didn't want to spend the years to get a PhD and spend my life writing papers like "The variations in TGF-B protein levels in glomeruli in C57B mice".
So, on the advice of a family friend (and longtime nurse educator), I am once again a student.

Welcome, congrats, and good luck. I was older(~30yo) when I started, and wish that I had made this choice as my first career, instead of third.
I appreciate your responses. I have registered to take Chemistry and the CNA course this Fall. I begin Nursing I and Anatomy and Physiology in the Spring. I aced Anatomy/Physiology, zoology and microbiology in college but is was 16 years ago and I had to have taken it in the past 5 years! I now have to take them over. Oh well. Thank guys for the support. I am looking forward to participating.
