2 Classes down and on the Waiting List!
Last Summer I decided to put my plan into action and pursue a nursing career, as I should have done 15 years ago. The only thing holding me back then was Chemistry. I passed Chemistry this past fall with an "A". I just finished my CNA certification as required by my program and now I have been placed on the waiting list for the AA in Nursing program. I have found that my concentration and dedication to my studies this time around is much better than it was when I was in college 15 years ago. Maybe it is just becasue this time around it is what I really want and don't want to screw it up. Is this common?

Old man thinking of nursing
I went all the way through my MA in Polictal Studies, half way through a doctorate in Public Administration and spent 11 years and counting workign for the Illinois General Assembly as a legislative analyst before I realized that I should have continued my dream of working in the medical field, the one I gave up when I was 20 years old in college becasue I did not wnat to put forth the effort then. I commend you for realizing it now and working to make a decision. Go for it and don't look back. Age does not matter. I am 36 and will prbably be 39 beofre I finish. The great thing is that I will not be sitting at my desk for the rest of my life. I will be helping people and doing what I feel is the right thing with my life! I have not spent alot of time on the board since I started classes but from what I have read and continue to read, this is the best place to get the support you would need and guidance! Congratulations on your first step!

Just started classes on Tuesday!
It has been awhile since I last posted. It took a very long time for me to get over the fact that I got a bachelor's, master's and part of my doctorate before realizign that it was not what I wanted much less swallowing the fact that I spent all of that money! ANyway, I started my first chemistry class on Tuesday night since they would not count my 3 chemistry classes that I took in 1990, 1991 and 1992. My first impression was somewhat awkward. Maybe some of you can help me. I was the only male in the entire class of over 30! This is a first for me. I felt like I had no clothes on and that I was being stared at constantly. So, does it get any easier?

Why would a student be banned from a hospital?
Her stay in our home came to an abrupt end when she just could't help around the house and her 3 kids got out of control. I never really got the whole story about what happened. The most we were ever told was that her Boss had it out for her. I know she requested her employee file and brought it to an attorney. The attorney found no record of why she was terminated, for what reason and no documentation of the ban. They filed a lawsuit and that was the last I heard of it. Too much drama that I really never needed . Anyway, I was curious if anyone really had any idea of what someone could have done to get banned from a hospital.

Why would a student be banned from a hospital?
Last year, my wife and I offered our home to a "friend" of hers (actually, our duaghters were in the same school and my wife's Brownie troop together). At the time, she was working towards her 2nd year in Nursing school. She moved in in May 2006 and Moved out in October 2006. During that time, she was working at a local hospital, the same that she was doing her clinicals at. One day, she came home saying she was terminated from her job "for no specific reason" and was banned from the hospital and was banned from the hospital, preventing her from completing her 2nd year in the nursing program. Without any notice or reason? I somehow find this very hard to imagine. Is this even possible? I would think that there would be a number of interventions that would need to happen before. Is this possible? How bad would it have to be before someone were banned from a hospital?

Thank you all in advance.....
I stumbled upon this forum while searching for anything I could find regarding men who have considered and completed a career change to nursing. I began college in a Pre-Med track but instead was sidetracked by the percieved "glamour" of politics. After having a family and running the political circuit for awhile, I have come to the end of advancement where I am, having not gained the satisfaction that I was looking for. I am 35 and have 3 small children and feel like starting over in a new career is necessary and I have wasted so many years. I start my Associates program in September and am pretty psyched about it. I considered an accelerated BSN but cannot afford to take off work for one year while I do it. My mother was a intensive care nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago many years ago. She encouraged me then to do it but I didnt listen. After reading many of the posts here, I feel more confident that I am doing it for the right reasons and I am not alone. Again, thank you and I look forward to reading more about your experiences and learning from your advice.
