Texas Woman's University-help with pre req questions

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone, I've been reading over the posts about Texas Woman's University and I appreciate the info, however I am a little confused about the pre req requirements. I am currently attending Lone Star to get my pre reqs done and after contacting the Houston office of TWU I was told if you are not "core complete" at your transfer school you have to take the computer course, the womens multicultural class, and the math 1013 I think it was. The reason I am really wanting to find out is because I had planned on taking the Psych Statistics course rather than the Math Statistics course to save myself having to take an extra math course. However, if I do that I end up having to take 6 hrs of additional math courses. Has anyone else run into this problem? Or can you clear up exactly what the pre reqs are? Their website is confusing and I'm even more confused after talking to the rep from the school about the math requirements.

I plan on applying to both UT Houston and TWU since the both have the same basic core curriculum. I just wanted to know if anyone had applied recently or was attending that could answer the math questions for me. Thanks for your time.

Since I am not core complete at the school I'm attending, I understand I have to take Math 1013, Womens MC, and Computer Literacy. Lets say I was accepted in TWU Houston, will I have to complete the Math 1013 before the start of nursing courses or it can completed during the start of nursing courses?

I would call or email them. I had the same question about the statistics course, which by the way, must be completed before the application deadline. I'm pretty sure the women's multi-cultural course doesn't have to be completed, and you can take it at TWU before the program starts...but I would take it at a community college if you can because TWU is expensive.

Oh okay. I'll call to make sure. Well I already did take Statistics. I think for the womens mc class it can be taken after nursing school starts just confused of when I should take the MATH 1013 Quantitative Literacy course. Maybe I will take it at my community college instead..Will see

This is confusing! I am core complete at the college I am currently attending. (San Jacinto College) I have my associates in general studies and I satisfied the math requirement at SJC with College Math for Liberal Arts which is a quantitative reasoning math class. I wonder if it will satisfy TWU requirement? I HATE math and it took all I had to get a B in this class. Having said all that, I've decided I want a BSN so now I'm going to do the prenursing classes. I need AP1 &2, Lifespan, Nutrition, Stats, Micro, & Chem. I plan on doing four in the fall and the others in the spring. I want to apply at TWU, UTH, and UTMB. I found this on TWU:

**Note: Psyc Statistics (PSY 3303) - Applied Statistics may be substituted for MATH 1703. For 1st degree students they MUST complete 6 semester hours of college Math credit including MATH 1013 unless they are core complete.

It sounds as if I can take the PSYC Stats course and have the rest waived since I am core complete, right? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would double check. I was told that to you could take psych stat, but you would have to have completed some other math class for it to count. I took stat at San Jac North and it was an awesome class. I got an A easily.

I had all of those classes when I started my prereqs, with the exception of nutrition. I took A&P1, micro, and govt (needed higher grade) together in the summer. Then in the fall, I took A&P2, chem, lifespan, and stat. I was signed up for nutrition in the fall because I forgot I'd already taken it...how do you forget? Who knows... So it's doable to get all that done in two semesters if you're willing to do the work. Good luck!

And I saw a comment about this earlier. TWU only looks for the first grade for both A&Ps, micro, and stat. I took chem three times before passing (with an A!), and I took a govt class a second time to pull my GPA up.

FYI, Biol 4344 is NOT nutrition, it is Pathophysiology and it's not a pre-requisite to get into the school since you take that as part of the upper division nursing curricula. However, Nutrition is one of the pre-reqs for admission into upper level nursing but not really considered in regards to admission to the School of Nursing at TWU or UT, regardless you need to have it finished before you transfer.

Thank you for the information. I also want to add that according to TWU transfer guide, MATH 1332 is considered the equivalent to Quantitative Reasoning, which at SJC IS the College Math for Liberal Arts. (YAY!) Other colleges may call it Math for Critical Thinking or something similar.
