Texas Wesleyan CRNA 2017

Published

Hi everyone! I am new to allnurses.com, so my apologies in advance if I've posted this topic elsewhere on the website. I submitted my application and all supporting documents at the beginning of the month to Texas Wesleyan's CRNA program for the entering class of 2017. Has anyone applied this cycle received an interview date or any feedback from the school? Thanks in advance!

Has everyone that applied heard something? Everyone that I know that applied to TWU except me! I am trying not to get discouraged but am getting more so everyday that passes. GRRR.

I haven't had any updates on the self service center, so I called today and was told the same the my application is still under review. Nothing new to report.

darn it! this patiently waiting is getting really old. Have you actually heard about people not getting interviewed there?

Hi All,

I also got notified about my interview few weeks ago. I got the chance to talk to my coworker who got into TWU this year about the interview questions. She told me to be ready for acute care pathos, MOA of sympathomimetics and parasympathomimetics, blood transfusions, ECG, Vent managements, shocks (especially septic and cardiogenic shocks).

Congrats spring hopeful!!! Looks like we will be the 2 at that site! Can't wait to meet you, and everyone else!

If you haven't gotten an interview yet, don't stress! I have heard of people getting interviewed up until February, and still getting in.

emtjamie- I haven't heard anything yet at all from TWU. My app still says file under review. I haven't called or emailed at all, other than calling to update of my passing the CCRN. I'm still hopeful because DFW and Lubbock is very close to my hometown. However, I have an interview at Northeastern University in Boston on December the 13th. I'm really excited too. If I have to move, I will. I had a psych patient the other night that scared the bajesus outta me, but all went well (propofol and fentanyl gtts!!). It just served to reiterate that I want to move on!!! Anyone else feel this way!! :dead:

Hang in there Easton5! I'm sure your time is coming!

I interviewed yesterday for the Colton site and was somehow accepted! I was originally scheduled to interview in Texas January 11 for the Colton site, but was called at work Wednesday and asked if I could interview yesterday instead due to a cancellation. You can imagine my hesitation but decided to go for it. I felt my interview was horrible. They were very nice, but I definitely felt the pressure and did not feel prepared. My advice is to talk about a patient and know everything about what's going on. Know their drips and labs (and how they work in the body), ABGs, and vent settings and what was done for the patient. That's what they asked me. I'm just glad it was fresh on my mind since I didn't have much preparation; they asked when I last worked, which was the day before the interview and what patients I took care of). The guy that interviewed before me said he was contacted the morning of! So please prepare now for the interview. You might just interview tomorrow! ;)

Anyone else accepted to the Colton clinical site?

Goodluck to everyone interviewing today at the Alabama site. Please keep us updated on how the interview went.

I'm in at Colton as well. When they ask what the last patient you took care of was, definitely mention something you're familiar with! Like mentioned in past posts, know your patient's disease process down to the cellular level along with what gtts the patient was on, and why. Also know how your gtts work along with possible side effects, etc. Know the treatment plan, and why you're doing what you're doing. When you give an answer, be prepared to answer the question "why?" to pretty much every answer that you give. They will have you elaborate and go as in depth as you can until you no longer know. If you don't know something, don't make it up. Say you don't know.

Know vent settings, ABGs, and how vent settings will affect your ABGs. Nothing too crazy. You direct your interview, so only talk about things you know. The panel's not trying to intimidate you. If anything, I over studied for this interview, and it seemed like they were trying to make me feel comfortable. I wish I could start the program sooner!

I have always wondered what I need to know with regards to vent settings? In the ICU I work at the respiratory therapists are in charge of the vents settings. I don't really mess with the vents all I do is look at the FI02 and Peep settings and pass that along in report. Do i need to do more research on this topic?

Progressive thinking and Kimber1108, congratulations! I was told the start date is August 21st and that will be in Fort Worth for the first 2 weeks. That's 3 of us confirmed for Colton.

Mi_top_rn, yes you need to know what the peep does, fio2, rate, and volume. Those at least. Good to know the different types too like AC, SIMV, etc and what they are used for. My work has the RTs do everything too, except in my rooms. I adjust my own vents as needed, order my own ABGs if I think I need an update and adjust to the results, then let the intensivist and RT know what I did. I've never had either tell me not to do it or I did something wrong. Every nurse I work with though calls me crazy for doing it, but it has made me much more proficient with the vents. Ask your RT to teach you if you need it. That's how I started with them.
