Texas Tech-Accelerated BSN Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying May 1st to the January 2020 cohort. I'm wondering how heavily they weigh the TEAS. Also, I have heard as long as you meet all criteria they typically give you an interview. Has anyone else heard this? I really like how they take a holistic approach to grant admissions. I'm wanting to apply to UTA but I feel like the main way you get extra points is by attending school there which I did not do! We'll see!

I just wanted to introduce myself as I am planning on applying as well! I know I need to call and ask, but does anybody know if stats for social sciences will suffice for the statistics prereq or does Tech require a math stats class like TAMU does? Also, has anybody done their CNA certification in Austin?

They have an equivalency tool on their website. Also, I e-mailed my questions to Cindy Deanda and she responded quickly.

Hi! I am currently working on my application for the Spring 2020 as well and I have a few questions! I saw on the Texas Tech Accelerated BSN website that a one page resume was required, does anyone know where that needs to be uploaded on the application? Also I am a CMA and was wondering where to add this information on the application as well as the shadowing hours I have completed?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! ?

When you hit submit there will be a profile page that will have areas for you to add attachments too. It took a few days for the links to pop up so that you can add them.

Thank you so much for your help!

Has anyone completed their CNA certification in the Austin area or does anyone have any recommendations of approved institutions that provide CNA courses? I am currently looking into the continuing education CNA program through ACC (http://continue.austincc.edu/nurseaide) but I have not heard back from the program coordinator yet regarding start dates.

Specializes in MICU.

Hi! Currently in the program in Austin, have lived here my whole life. Don't waste your time and money on many of the CNA courses in Austin. If you are able to get a job as a PCT at a hospital, you can use that experience in lieu of the CNA certificate. Tech cares about you having the CNA skills, not the certificate. I know it is confusing and you can even call someone from the SON to confirm but the actual certification and state licensure exam is not required.

Austin has a lot of different places to take the course and my experience with all of them was poor...just a heads up. Don't waste time waiting for ACC - I was going to do that and had to take it elsewhere because the program coordinator never responded to me. I got mine through Central Texas Nurse network (but I don't recommend getting it here...would rather speak privately about why). I also looked into Health Care Career Center Inc. because it was very close to my home and I went to orientation there, but the owner was a nightmare. He was incredibly pompous and rude so I didn't sign up...a girl in my cohort did her certification here and said the owner's wife (who is the instructor) was belittling and mean and actually made my classmate cry in class because she was very terse...

Based on the reviews of this place off of 620, I would consider looking here if you want to pay for the course: Graham's Nursing Training (Phone number: 512-773-9808 )

If I were to do this all over again, I would have just gone straight to my job at Dell Seton downtown as a PCT...they train you for all the skills you need and it is PAID, and you can submit proof of the skills to the college of nursing. If you have more questions feel free to reach out!

Hi, I work as a PCT but have not completed a full year yet. I worked as a PCT at a hospital in College Station and then recently moved and got hired at a different one in Dallas. Will that still count for the required CNA certification?

So I was in a previous nursing program 2 years ago (had to drop due to family circumstances) and they are counting my first clinical course as CNA credit! I would definitely reach out to Sonia and let her know you have PCT experience and if there's any way that can count toward your CNA and see!

Okay I will do that, thank you!

Hi! I haven't submitted my application yet but so far I haven't seen this, are references required?
