Texas State University PMHNP-MSN - Fall 2019

Reaching out to see if anyone else has applied to Texas State's PMHNP MSN program or is currently attending. Its a new program in Round Rock, TX that opened up Spring 2019. I got accepted into their Fall semester entrance and just wanted to see if anyone can provide some insight into the program or the school in general. Thanks!

Same here for August 23!!! Lol I also made the FB request and spoke with Cristine this morning about working FT while in the program. Kinda nervous about it?

Linh also gave me some great advice yesterday and advised that I start working on securing a preceptor which i was able to do today (there is no provider on the list in my area). You may want to do the same ?

I will be starting the program in the fall. I live in Fort Worth and have 10 years experience as a paramedic then 17 years in the NICU. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I was initially struggling as well but I copied the title Linh gave us into the groups tab in FB and was able to find it. Hope that helps.

Hi everyone,

Just curious how the program is going for you. I am in the process of applying now. I live in south Florida. I have been an RN for six years with experience in ICU, TELE/Stepdown/post cardiac interventional, acute PACU, and outpatient surgery. I have a bachelors in Criminology with a minor in psychology and a masters in Criminology as well. Hoping to combine my degrees. My mom is currently an NP in a jail in Florida, however she is not a psych NP. I have no experience working in psych except my rotations which were my favorite. Does anyone foresee a problem with this? I am eager to learn. ?

Sounds like you are an excellent candidate for the program. I also have no previous PSYCH RN experience and a masters degree in a non-medical field. My only concern for you is with you living in Florida, as there are several campus visits required for each semester.

Define several for me? My husband is a pilot so I can fly for free. He is actually living in Texas right now for a short time completing airline training. ?

What they're telling us is 2-3 times per semester.

Hi all,

I found this thread today. I'm not sure if anyone will read my message, since the last message on here was last year, LOL. I'm applying for the Fall 2020 start. I have many questions! I also wanted to see if I could join the FB group, but I think it's only for individuals admitted for that term.

Texascookie I applied for fall 2020 as well. I submitted my info in feburary but havent heard anything back (understandable given the circumstances). I shot the director an email. So hopefully they get back to me I'm excited!
