Is there a way to get out of taking this class? I am from out of state and it seems crazy to take a class that doesn't really apply to where you live or will practice after graduation...

If it is a graduation requirement for the school you are planning on attending, I doubt you can get out of it. I know that Texas requires 6 hours of history- my school required U.S. history before and after 1877. I believe one of my government classes that was required was Texas Government.. Texas has a core curriculum, you really can't skirt it.

Clep? Texas has a set list of courses we all have to take to graduate. They don't care where you're from or where you're going...you have to take them.

I don't recall having to take Texas history. It was just 6 hours of history, so I took US history 1 & 2. I believe Texas government is what is required.

Ok. It's not the class that's the problem...its the money that I'm trying to save. I am already clepping out of one class. I guess I'm going to learn everything I didn't want to know about Texas government.

As a Texan, I can attest to the fact that we are a little full of ourselves... hence why our government mandated this lovely course that doesn't apply to out of state students.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to be able to save money that way! Like the PP said...I'm sure it never even occurred to anyone in the legislature that someone WOULDN'T want to learn about Texas! We're just that awesome ;)

Sorry, but if you attend a college in Texas you MUST take it. That's actually one of the things you learn in the Texas class: how and why the Texas government mandated specific history/government classes for all Texas college graduates.

It's actually a pretty interesting class..I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I took at the same time with Federal Government and scored As in both because they cover pretty much the exact same main topics, just one focuses on the federal level and one focuses on the state/local level. It was like a perpetual review.

I am from Florida and was a bit surprised that I had to take it too since I have taken Gov, US History etc. I am taking it in October. I am hoping it isn't going to kill me with a ton of work. So far right now US History is killing me. Mad that I have a B.S. degree and I have to take US History I and Texas History. I was hoping to save the money as well.
