Texas RN- Brand new to TPAPN

Hello. As you can see by my title, I am about to be enrolled in TPAPN. I recently went through a terrible evaluation for mental health and substance abuse. I need advice. I’m currently on a leave of absence with my job through all of this because I went to treatment on my own. I’ve heard TPAPN will require me to tell me job. I haven’t signed a contract yet. I was also told by the evaluator that they would contact my boss as well. My question is- do I ride this out and wait until I’m forced to tell my job? Once that happens I of course will lose my medical benefits and my disability paycheck because I’m certain I will be fired. I highly doubt my current job will work with TPAPN... I’m attending IOP while on leave and would love to continue it because it’s really helping me. I’m just really scared and wondering if anyone has any advice at all for the current stage I’m in with this evaluator? The evaluator is asking me to sign a release to contact everyone you can possibly think of (doctors, treatment center, IOP, etc.) and I’m not comfortable with any of this. Just really scared and would love support/advice/anything at all. Thank you!

Have you been referred to TPAPN?

If you are enrolling In TPAPN you have to let your Provider communicate with TPAPN, but I don’t see why they need to speak to an employer. I’m a two time graduate from TPAPN and former advocate. I don’t know it all but am a “seasoned” reference. Lol.

Well, that’s what I was wondering. Apparently, when I sign the contract with TPAPN it’s expected that I tell my current employer at the minimum. Which sucks because I’m not even going back to that job. I’m on a medical leave there currently for treatment. BUT, the psychologist for the evaluation said they can contact my employer as well which I don’t understand and isn’t being explained well. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. In the future, I’m just worried about TPAPN in general and even getting a job at all. Basically, I’m just full of anxiety ?

Hello! I am in the pre-enrollment for TPAPN and my eval is coming up. It would be great if I could pick your brain on what to expect.

I know a little about TPAPN and yes, you have to tell your employer, because they have to submit quarterly reports.

If you are able to message me, please do, I would love to get some info. I am nervous about my eval, but I have been sober MANY years, so I am hoping it will not be too bad. I literally emailed every single person on the TX BON approved evaluator list, for prices, etc. I could not believe some of the prices from a few. I live in Central Texas and emailed ones as far as Dallas, and El Paso, as I would have been willing to drive for it.

My biggest worry is getting an evaluator that thinks I need some sort of treatment, even with YEARS (double digits) of sobriety.

Good luck and breathe. I know its hard, but, we can get through this!

Hey! I'm sorry you're also going through this.

Even I am worried they'll make me go back to treatment and I just went not long ago! I'd love to chat privately because I am a bit anxious about this being public as it is! I can definitely share with you my experience to lessen your anxiety a bit. I have no idea how to message on here but please message me if you can or tell me how! Plus, it'll be nice to talk with someone who is near the same timeline as me.
