TWU Spring 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Spring of 2010? Just thought that I would start a group for all of us hopefuls so we could share information and have a way to communicate with each other.

Have you taken your HESI A2 yet? Have you taken all of your pre-reqs? If not, what do you have left to take?

I have taken all of my pre-reqs, and I just took my HESI yesterday. I didn't think it was bad at all, but I prepared for it for about 3 weeks.

If you haven't noticed, TWU has made some slight changes that I think some people will not be happy with. They are taking into consideration the first grade made at pre-req attempts for several of the classes like A&P, micro, and another class. What do you think of this? I wonder how it will change the applicants chances of getting in?

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

Yes, the thread is: https://allnurses.com/texas-nurses/twu-spring-2009-a-328408.html It does seem far away but today is already oct 8th! yay!

Yeah,I called TWU yesterday to confirm my HESI exam scores as well and I was also told we should be receiving our letters before November 1st which is great news. The time is almost here and it seems like it's taking even longer even though we only have about 3 weeks left

oh wow! i can't decide if i'm glad to hear that or if it just makes me even more nervous! that's all i'm going to be able to think about until then!

I feel the same way!I'm just hoping for the best for all of us!

Ugh. I am stressing this Patho test. Now that I know how hard it will be, I feel like I need to just memorize the chapters, which is not possible, hence the stress. Blech.

yah lol. I know what you mean. Just try to remember how it works don't memorize. My pharm prof taught me that memorization is not going to do anything if you don't know how it works and if you are in a stressful situation, everything you memorized flies out the window. Good luck!

Goopsy is right! That is the key to success in Patho, very little is memorization. The key is the understanding of the mechanisms- why it happens, what goes wrong, and what parts are involved in it. Hang in there, I know it is STRESSFUL. I think going over and over the lecture notes, the book, and the end of chapter reviews really helps. Focus on class right now and try not to think about the other. You all can do it!!! Best Wishes

:specs:-is this one New?!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Did someone once post on here that Patho was the hardest class that they had taken during their nursing school career? I swear I saw that somewhere. I sure hope so, 'cause there is way too much information in these chapters to know everything and there certainly aren't any clues (teacher or book) to what is most important. I know she says that if she doesn't cover it in her notes, then it's not going to be on the test, but good grief her notes are just bullet points of every paragraph in the book. That's not letting me know what I don't have to study. :)

Good luck to you guys.

SuperSweet, you must have been the one that I remembered saying it was a hard class. Did you take it at TWU or somewhere else?

Right now I'm considering buying the online class ($60) to see if it can give me some insight into more of the questions that might be asked. I mean seriously $60 is nothing if I can just figure out what is more important than the other stuff. What do you ladies think?

Personally I think it is ridiculous that there are online resources that aren't made available for free, with the purchase of this textbook. I have used all sorts of online resources in conjunction with textbooks and never had to pay extra to use them. What a racket. I even called the publishers today to confirm that there were not free online resources that I was unable to locate, but no one could help me until Monday.

I understand that memorization isn't going to help me ultimately, but I have gone over and over the material. I read the chapters before class, listened attentively in class, studied her notes, read the book AGAIN, made my own notes by hand in addition to hers, and STILL could only answer about 60% of the study guide questions accurately. BOO. I feel like I have a pretty good handle on the material, but those study guide questions are killer. OK, I will now stop whining and venting....

No, Elizabelle I'm right there with you. I feel like I understand the material but the questions that are asked in that study guide are obscenely detailed and in my opinion could only be answered if you had access to the textbook while you are taking the test. I'm not normally one to complain about school stuff, but I usually have a clue as to what to focus my efforts on and NONE of this seems to stand out above the rest. I mean come on, if I am expected to know all of the stuff in every one of these chapters then I'm writing my own Patho book when we're done 'cause honestly this is a poorly written book. Organizationally as well as much of the content. Ok, I'll get off my rant now too....
