Temple College - ADN Info

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello to all out there!

Is there anyone planning to apply, or already accepted to the Temple College ADN program (in Temple, Texas)? I'm applying this semester, and am a bit nervous about how competitive it is. Can anyone shed some light regarding what criteria I need in order to be accepted (HESI scores for math, vocab and reading comp, GPA, and the number of co-requisites completed)?

I know this sounds a bit ambiguous, because I know that obviously I need to do the best in everything I can, but I just wanted to get some insight from some people who have recently applied, and their outcomes.

Thanks!

I probably can't help you too much. I've been through the first semester of the Temple College ADN program and am getting ready to start second semester on Jan. 11. I guess they have phased out the NET-RN now and I don't know anything about what they are now using. All I know is I had A's on all my prereqs and made like an 82 or 83 on the NET-RN. That probably doesn't help you much. I did get in on my first try. Good luck!

Actually, this is helpful info. I have heard horror stories that most don't get in on their first attempt. Now we have to take the HESI instead of the NET. Did you take any classes other than the pre-reqs?

In addition to the prereqs I had Lifespan (psych) and all my general courses (English, electives, etc) done. I still needed A&P II and Micro and was able to get in just on the basis of the A's in the 3 prereqs and my NET. I should have gotten a "free" point also for living in the TC service area. I took A&P II in the summer before first semester after knowing I was accepted. I still have to take Micro and am planning to squeeze that in this coming summer. I'd heard the horror stories too and thought for sure I wouldn't make it the first time. I don't know what the HESI is like - would be interested to know how it compares to the NET.

ETA: I imagine you've heard recommendations to apply for the LVN program also and then if you get into that instead of the RN program, you can bridge later. I didn't do that but it's an idea.

I'm in a similar situation. I've taken everything except for A&P I and II, and Micro. I start A&P I Tuesday. I have earned A's in everything except for B's in Computer Science (Special Topics) and English Comp I. I don't live in the Temple service area, so I have to make up for that lost point as much as possible with an A in A&P and trying to do the best possible on the HESI. I took the NET last semester when I was going to apply at CTC. Based on what I have been studying, the HESI should be fairly similar, a bit more in depth with math, and more emphasis on medical terminology for vocabulary. I'm just praying and studying. How was A&P for you? I have Professor Simpson in the night class. How much studying did it take to get an A? (Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for taking the time to answer!)

I have not heard of Simpson - have they gotten some new profs? I had Burnside for A&P I and Locklin for II. I think it kind of varies by instructor as to how much studying is needed. I studied for both but I didn't have to spend hours and hours on it and got an A in I and a B in II. For some reason remembering the cranial nerves and the veins/arteries was the stuff that I had a hard time with, and that was in II. In A&P I you kind of go over the basics and it didn't seem as complicated to me and a little easier to learn than the stuff you go over in II.

Hey Hopeful! This is not related to this thread, but they closed the HESI study guide thread and I can't pm, so this is the only way I can talk to you! I was just wondering if you could email me the HESI study guide that you have to linz24708 at aol dot com. If you could that would be great! thanks

Does anyone know when the letters for TC will be sent out?

Fourth week in May-ish. Good luck!
