Can anyone direct me to some information on how a LPN from Kentucky can move to Texas and practice there? What steps need to be taken ect.? I've searched the web for quite a while and can't seem to find any information on the Texas end, not even a web site for the Board of Nursing. Thanks.

You can download the license application but will have to have the fingerprint cards mailed to you. Do this right away, they move slow as a snail in Austin.

Get your fingerprint cards done at a local sheriff's office and send your application with it. You will also need to download the form for affidavit for graduation from an approved school of nursing and send it to your dean of the nursing school you graduated from and have them send it to Austin.

We moved from Michigan to TX 7 years ago..

Make sure you've worked as a nurse in the past 5 years before you even apply. I hadn't, (worked) and had a go round for 3 years with the board.\

They finally told me I had to either go back to Michigan and work for 6 months (then they changed that and said a year) or go back to school an start over from the beginning.. Would not accept a preceptorship ( I went thru CNA classes just so I could work somewhere..nurses at the hosp where I was working offered to precept) would not accept my taking boards again, would not accept a refresher class.

Husband and I talked it over, decided we could do 6 months OK..aftr 7 months I sent in all the paper work and $$$$ (1st of september) License finally appreared the middle of November.

Texas BON moves verrrry slowly

You can NEVER get thru on the phone

Good luck. I hope your experience is better than mine
