HCC ADN Program Pre-reqs?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello all!

I'm trying to figure out what pre-reqs I need to take so I can apply for the ADN program at HCC. On the website, it gives me a list of four classes I need to take before I can apply to get into the program (BIOL 2401; ENGL 1301; PSYC 2301; and RNSG 1301) That's fine and all, but I was searching around here on topics about the HCC program, and I keep seeing members mention "pharm class" and some kind of test on dosages and math that you have to pass. As you can probably tell, I'm a bit confused, lol.

I've already completed PSYC, but I have no idea what classes I should continue taking this summer in order to apply for the nursing school.

Thank you in advanced for your help! :D

When I was looking into HCC, I called to request information, like pre-requisites, and they kept telling me that I had to attend one of their nursing school information sessions, over & over. I think that's why they don't list a lot of information on their website (so you'll go to the information sessions).

You have to be in invited to take Pharmacology (RNSG 1301). You are invited after you fill out an application at Coleman, take the other prereqs, and score high enough on the HESI. When you fill out an application, and show you have finished your prereqs, they will give you a date you can take the HESI. Take the HESI, and wait until you hear from them. I took the HESI in Feb, and was invited in April to take Pharm for the summer. Once you pass Pharm, then you are officially in the program. You can't take any other RNSG classes until you pass that class.

Yeah, it's that complicated.

Sorry, also forgot that you HAVE TO go to the orientation before they will let you fill out an application. They make you show proof that you attended the orientation before they will give it to you!

Hi Texaspancho. Did they send you a letter or an email letting you know you were selected to take Pharmacology? I just took the HESI on May 8th and passed all sections with 90 or better. They said I would be notified this week if I am selected to take Pharma ... haven't heard nothing yet. I wonder what do they look for when selecting student to take pharm... sigh

It took them 2 months from my test date to notify me by snail mail that I had been selected to take the class (also scored above 90 on all sections). If you took it May 8th, it seems awfully fast for them to notify you, but if she said a week, I dunno. There is a mandatory orientation on June 2nd for summer Pharm. I postponed to take Fall Pharm because I am traveling this summer. But I know how you feel, cuz choosing postponement seemed dicey (what if they forget me?).

If you did all your stuff right it seems like you will be contacted...at some point....:)

Just be real consistent with them. Call to ask if you can take Pharm this summer. Thats what I did...I just finished their program!! :-)

Thanks for your responses. I actually received my letter today. YA!!!

Study HARD in that pharm class! It is a KILLER but doable. Just definitely don't underestimate it. :-)

Hi just read that you graduated frm hcc coleman last yr. Well I'm applying for spring 12 can you tel me how did u get in? Like gpa and classes and hesi and math test scores? I've completed all the courses and more because ill be doing my bsn when I finish my associates. I took my hesi and got in the 80% range so I'm retaking it and my gpa is a 3.0 I haven't took the math test but took dosage calculations so is the math test like that? Also what is the nursing program like as far as clinicals time and days and lectures is it 5days a week? Thanks

I have all of the same questions as "caringhands88"! What is the program like once you are accepted? Do they allow accelerated progression? or is it already 12hrs a day, everyday? I haven't talked to anyone that is actually IN the program, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.
