Did you guys check your grades? I got 1 stinkin' point! AAAHHH!! Everyone I have talked to received at least 6 points....maybe she messed up on mine or maybe I missed those 3...but how did I get only one point?! I hope you guys fared better than I did!

I got 86%. I don't know why. I had classmates who got no extra points. Ms. G said that we would have a test review next week.

I got an 86 too... I guess that's 5 points. I honestly didn't think that I even missed 7 out of 50....(I work at a psych hospital)!!! I hope we get a test review at THR too!?!?!?!

Question: Who knows what neutropenic isolation is?

Yesterday, I had a pt with lung transplant, nausea, diarrhea, and .... possible TB. We tried to get the first AFB sample yesterday but he couldn't cough.

Anyway, we ended up with reverse, neutropenic and airborne isolations. I never seen neutropenic isolation before. So, my understanding is that those pt-s who have low WBC count need this isolation. No flowers, fruits or sick visitors. Also, we had N95 on because of the airborne isolation.

It was a very educational day. :specs:

Wow! That sounds really cool...I hope I eventually get interesting patients like that. For the first one though, I'm going for an easier one...lol.

That does sound like fun :D Not really fun in the normal sense but fun in an educational sense. My very first patient this semester was on neutropenic isolation and it was very interesting...

Did you happen to notice if your pt was on INH and if they were given Vitamin B6 supplement to prevent neurolysis and the drug must also be given on an empty stomach. Or they could have been taking Rifampin in which you must warn them of a color change in their urine, sweat, tears, etc. It changes to orange-red. All anti-TB meds though can cause hepatotoxicity so monitor liver functions! (AST, ALT, Alk Phosp, bilirubin). There's always a chance of nephrotoxicity or ototoxicity also. You may also want to encourage food high in B vitamin such as meat, liver, raw avocados

I'm just having fun with ya while also studying for pharm! LOL

But I guess you didn't know if he was TB yet so he wouldn't have been on any of those meds but you would have been ready to explain them to him ;)
