Anyone with experience with Blinn in Bryan?

U.S.A. Texas

Hi everyone! I have been accepted into Blinn's ADN program for the fall semester. I am sooo excited! I was just curious if anyone here has been through this program and if so can give some helpful information/advice?! I have completed everything required to begin except the CPR class which I will take this Saturday. I know I should take it easy my last summer but I am eagerly anticipating the first day!

Thanks for all the help!

Wow! Is there really no one with any info about Blinn? I realize Bryan/College Station isn't huge but I thought someone might have some sort of experience with the ADN program. Guess I will find out soon enough though!

I just wanted to say Congratulations! I don't have any info on their ADN program, as I only did a semester of Gen Ed classes there back in 1999. It is a nice campus, and I liked my classes. I'm sure that their program is great!

Oh, and don't feel bad. I'm in Houston, going to LSC-Cy-Fair, pretty big school for the area, and there isn't much on here about it. The students must not have found allnurses.com yet.:D

Good luck in nursing school!

Laura

Thanks so much for the well wishes! I guess I will just have to wait for the semester to begin. I am just going crazy wondering what's next?!

Guess we will have to introduce everyone to allnurses.com!

I don't know anything about the school, but man...I'd love to be eating at Sodelak's Beefmaster restaurant right now. MmmMm, hamburger steak heaven. We stop there every time we travel through Bryan on the way home to E. Texas.

Yes they do have great food! In fact there are quite a few restaurants around this area that we enjoy. From what I have been told about the nursing program, we may be frequenting take out quite often since I am told I won't have time to cook!:eek:

By the way, I don't envy you with that drive! That must take forever!!

About 10 hours when my wife is with me. Eight otherwise.

Hi there, this was a random find! I was googling blinn ADN to find out some stuff and found this thread.

Anyways, I'm starting my 3rd semester at Blinn in the ADN program. Welcome!!! First semester was tough for me, I had a 4.0 going into the program, and had to get use to B's for the first time. BUT keep this in mind that one of the 1st sem. teachers showed us:

A= RN

B= RN

C= RN

Stay up with readings, but know that it will be LITERALLY impossible to read everything. assessment (1300 I think??), she gives you a pretty detailed blueprint for the exams so if you know that front and back and pay attention in class you will do well. class (1114?)... READ, READ and READ. Seriously, she has you do all sorts of crazy concept maps that you think are related to the tests, and they sort of corelate, but you really need to read and memorize the vocab lists she gives you. Speaking of concept maps... learn them, love them, get use to them. They will follow you into the following semesters, so the best thing you can do is figure it out in the 1st semester how to do them well. I loved class, 1205. It was the "hands on" class. Do not let the check offs scare you. Remember that even though there is a list how to do something (for instance, inserting a foley), in real life you wont be following a list, so the key thing is the get the major concepts out of it (maintaining sterility, checking nameband, etc). The clinical is no fun the first semester at a nursing home. You dont get to do too much, but try to do what you can. (one) class was a bit tough for me too. I'd recommend investing money now in "Saunder's NCLEX review book". That will help you greatly for her class.

Anyways, welcome again! I'm sure I will see you around.

I am planning on applying for Blinn's ADN program. Anyone else there with some advice? And does anyone know why the pp sounded a little negative about Blinn? Does their ADN program come with a bad rep?

Hey yall. I just got accepted into Blinn's ADN program for Fall 2010 and was wondering what you think about the program. Any advice?

P.S. I love Sodelak's!

My previous post wasn't meant to sound negative. It's a great program! I actually ended withdrawing in my 3rd semester because I got pregnant with my 2nd over the summer. It was getting a bit tough for me. Anywho, my previous post was more to just lay out the info. Nursing school is tough, but Blinn's program is great. I am now at UT-Houston in the generic BSN program, and the programs are fairly comparable. Enjoy your summer before school starts! Good luck!

I'm planning on applying to Blinn for Spring admission and was wondering how competitive it was? I went there for a year before transferring to A&M a couple years ago. I noticed that you have to pick up the application at Blinn too? Anywho, any info on the program would be great!
