Accelerated BSN program interviews

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

Anyone had an interview yet for an accelerated BSN program? I have applied to both UTMB and UT Houston. I have an interview at UTMB next week and wanted to get a heads up on what the interview was like or what kind of questions were asked. Feedback from interviews at any nursing schools would help.

Thanks!

I also had interview at UTMB accelerated BSN program the 2nd week of Dec. I haven't heard anything from UT Houston yet regarding interview times. I'm curious if anyone who applied has received an interview yet with Houston accelerated BSN. The deadline for apps was much later than UTMB even though they both begin in May 06. I may know if I get into UTMB before I even get an interview with Houston. If anyone has already interviewed at UT Houston for the accelerated BSN I'd be interested to know.

I was wondering the same thing so I called UT Houston last week and they said they are still looking through the applications. They haven't set up any interviews yet and they said we would be notified by mail. I hope UTMB doesn't have to have an answer before we even know if we are accepted to UT Houston. Did you know that 400 people applied to Houston's BACC2 program and only 80 applied to UTMB's? The odds are much better at UTMB but I would like to know my status at both before I have to make a decision. How did your interview go at UTMB? Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info about UT Houston. I didn't realize so few applied to UTMB. That makes me feel better about my chances. The interview went so, so. Both people interviewing me were sick and it was late in the day. Obviously neither wanted to be at work, so it was not a positive feeling. Plus I was nervous and suddenly lost voluntary control of my brain and mouth!:chuckle My first B.S. overall GPA was only a 3.1 and even with all A's for the last 50 credit hours of nursing prerequisites only pulled it up to a 3.5, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They did tell me that I should get a letter before Jan. 10. That's the day I have to pay tuition for the traditional 22 month BSN program I've already been accepted to. If I don't get accepted at UTMB and don't hear from Houston, I'm going to start the 22 mo. program in Jan. Good luck to all who are waiting.

Hi

I'm interested in applying to BACC program at UTMB, what was your interview like, and what type of degree do you have?

Thanks

I just called UT Houston again. They said they won't start sending letters out for interviews until February! I asked when they would make a decision for the BACC2 program and she said students would be notified in April. That's cutting it pretty close. I'm sure UTMB would need a commitment before then.

Hey, just wondering if you have heard anything from UTMB yet? I thought they said we would have letters out before 1/10. I haven't received anything. Please let me know if you have.

Thanks!

Good news today. I received my acceptance letter from UTMB today! I guess my interview went better than I had imagined it. I had already started the semester locally at a nursing program but can get most of my tuition back. I'll probably keep most of the books I bought and just read ahead because I've opened them anyway and would lose too much money on them. I'll need to be prepared for the quick pace beginning in May.

I also received an interview letter from UT Houston. My interview is in a couple of weeks.

Good luck. I hope you got some good news as well.

Hi Rule6, I have an interview with UT Houston on the 27th too. What do you suggest a man should wear to the interview? Suit? Also what were your interview questions like for UTMB? Did you have a writing sample to do? Thanks in advance for the info.

I didn't wear a suit to the UTMB interview. I just wore dress casual khakis, sport coat. I didn't even wear a tie. I put one on but I felt like I was going to a funeral. I haven't worn a tie since I left the corporate world 11 years ago. I put them in the same category women put panty hose...torture devices!!

Questions for the interview were what you might expect them to ask. Why nursing? Can you handle the fast pace of an accelerated program? What are your resources available during school...financially, family, socially. UTMB did not have a writing portion.

I expect the writing portion will be to test your communication skills. If you aren't able to write a cohearant essay, then they probably will assume you won't be able to write care plan either.

Was your GPA and and what type of bachelor degree do you have, and do you have any healthcare experience?

Thanks

My overall GPA is about 3.55, science GPA is 3.7 and nursing science prerequisite GPA is 3.8. The most recent 50 credit hours have been a GPA 4.0. I think they realized that my priorities are much different now than when I was 19 yr old. My first B.S. was Art major / Biology minor. I have no health care experience up to now. Several of my family members are nurses. I plan to work at a hospital until May as an orderly or nurse tech for the experience.

I think a lot of selection committees know that returning students bring a wide variety of life experiences to the nursing field. If you show them you are commited and willing to do whatever is necessary to succeed, you should have no trouble getting accepted. The transcript doesn't lie, but I think more importantly is the attitude you project.
