  1. Congrats to all who got in at Union. I interviewed on May 19th and got my call on the 27th. Looking forward to meeting all of my classmates. Hard to believe that 4 yrs ago I was a business owner going to night school to complete nursing prereqs. I spent many hours on this forum searching for info about Accelerated BSN programs and dreaming of going to CRNA school. In Jan I will start CRNA school. It has been a lot of hard work and many sacrifices but totally worth it. Those of you reading this that have the dream, don't give up. Keep working hard. Be willing to do whatever it takes and always keep your goal in mind. Create the life you want or someone else will create it for you. Good luck to all.
  2. Hey Kim O'Therapy: Regarding your question about transferring courses into the nursing program; I began the accelerated BSN program at UT-Houston last May and I was already enrolled at another 2 yr. nursing school (also a UT school but not in Houston). I was able to transfer with Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Health Assessment. No matter what program you are beginning, if you can get some courses out of the way, it will lighten your load that first semester. You should contact the Student Affairs office at the school of nursing you are interested in and they usually have a form that you can fill out and submit along with the syllabus of the current course you are taking. The professor of the course you want to avoid repeating will evaluate the syllabus and any other documentation you can use to support your request. You request might be declined, but it certainly can't hurt to ask. It might save you some money too.
  3. Don't worry about the 4.0 GPA. That is not the most important criteria, in my opinion. I applied to 2 BSN accelerated programs and was accepted to both. My GPA overall was around 3.5 and my nursing science GPA was 3.8. I interviewed with people who had 4.0 GPA and they didn't get in. I think the interview and your overall attitude, your support system (financial and family) are most important. Most nursing professors know what type of people make the best nurses and I don't think 4.0 GPA is one of those characteristics. If you happen to have a 4.0 and meet all the other requirements, then all the better. Good grades are important, and Perfect grades do not always equal the best fit for the particular program you are applying. Best of Luck.
  4. Congratulations !! Thanks for the info about the website Klight. I checked my application and it says that I've been accepted. I guess I'll see you in a few months. I haven't received my letter yet, so I guess its not offical, but I'm still glad to be 99 percent sure. Good luck to all of those still waiting!
  5. When I interviewed for the accelerated program at UT Houston the director asked me if I had a PDA and if it had mp3 capabilities. She said I could download all of the lectures in audio format as well as all of the lecture powerpoints if I had enough memory on my pda. I thought it was a good idea and would prevent me from having to keep up with all those tapes.
  6. My overall GPA is about 3.55, science GPA is 3.7 and nursing science prerequisite GPA is 3.8. The most recent 50 credit hours have been a GPA 4.0. I think they realized that my priorities are much different now than when I was 19 yr old. My first B.S. was Art major / Biology minor. I have no health care experience up to now. Several of my family members are nurses. I plan to work at a hospital until May as an orderly or nurse tech for the experience. I think a lot of selection committees know that returning students bring a wide variety of life experiences to the nursing field. If you show them you are commited and willing to do whatever is necessary to succeed, you should have no trouble getting accepted. The transcript doesn't lie, but I think more importantly is the attitude you project.
  7. I didn't wear a suit to the UTMB interview. I just wore dress casual khakis, sport coat. I didn't even wear a tie. I put one on but I felt like I was going to a funeral. I haven't worn a tie since I left the corporate world 11 years ago. I put them in the same category women put panty hose...torture devices!! Questions for the interview were what you might expect them to ask. Why nursing? Can you handle the fast pace of an accelerated program? What are your resources available during school...financially, family, socially. UTMB did not have a writing portion. I expect the writing portion will be to test your communication skills. If you aren't able to write a cohearant essay, then they probably will assume you won't be able to write care plan either.
  8. Good news today. I received my acceptance letter from UTMB today! I guess my interview went better than I had imagined it. I had already started the semester locally at a nursing program but can get most of my tuition back. I'll probably keep most of the books I bought and just read ahead because I've opened them anyway and would lose too much money on them. I'll need to be prepared for the quick pace beginning in May. I also received an interview letter from UT Houston. My interview is in a couple of weeks. Good luck. I hope you got some good news as well.
  9. Thanks for the info about UT Houston. I didn't realize so few applied to UTMB. That makes me feel better about my chances. The interview went so, so. Both people interviewing me were sick and it was late in the day. Obviously neither wanted to be at work, so it was not a positive feeling. Plus I was nervous and suddenly lost voluntary control of my brain and mouth!:chuckle My first B.S. overall GPA was only a 3.1 and even with all A's for the last 50 credit hours of nursing prerequisites only pulled it up to a 3.5, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They did tell me that I should get a letter before Jan. 10. That's the day I have to pay tuition for the traditional 22 month BSN program I've already been accepted to. If I don't get accepted at UTMB and don't hear from Houston, I'm going to start the 22 mo. program in Jan. Good luck to all who are waiting.
  10. I also had interview at UTMB accelerated BSN program the 2nd week of Dec. I haven't heard anything from UT Houston yet regarding interview times. I'm curious if anyone who applied has received an interview yet with Houston accelerated BSN. The deadline for apps was much later than UTMB even though they both begin in May 06. I may know if I get into UTMB before I even get an interview with Houston. If anyone has already interviewed at UT Houston for the accelerated BSN I'd be interested to know.
