Texas Nursing Students!!! I need your help!!! My GPA may be a problem!!!

Ok, so I messed up my first semester of college and my gpa was a 1.6. The next semester, my gpa was 3.46, which brought my overall gpa up to 2.46. My third semester I made Dean's List with a gpa of 3.78 (Note: the classes were all math/science and would count towards that nursing prereq gpa). However, this last spring I retook the two classes I failed along with 3 others and had a gpa of 2.56 (I guess I overestimated my abilities).

So far, my overall gpa (including the two Fs because UTHSC San Antonio will calculate it this way as will TWU with general admission) is 2.82 and when my school replaced the Fs the recalculated gpa is 3.15.

My math/science gpa for UTHSC SA is 3.14 for TWU, my nursing core prerequisites gpa is 3.56. I'm also applying to UTHSC in Houston and I am taking my TEAS and HESI A2 at the end of the month.

So my question is ... do you guys think I have a shot? And what advice could you guys give me, if any??? Thank ya'll in advance

I think it's worth a try. Your TEAS score will have a pretty big impact on your competitiveness, too.

I'm applying to UT Health in SA, too. I have an old F from 20 years ago that they won't purge from my transcripts, so I'm working against my past, too.

Best of luck.

Have you looked into the Fresh Start law? There is a law I believe that allows schools to not use any grades from 10 years ago and prior to in order for them not to mess up your GPA. I would look more into this. I hope this will be of some help to you

I've heard about it, but that wouldn't apply to me. I started college in '15.

I did, my old school has a disclaimer up that they won't remove grades. If I don't make it in this round, I'll see what I can do. Thanks so much for this information!

ItsThatJenGirl,

That's ridiculous! I honestly think that they shouldn't hold certain things against students past a certain time frame. People have personal, financial, & emotional issues that can cause such grades to come about. 20 years is a very long time & I'm sure your situation has changed since then. I think it's wrong. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance! Good luck to you all. My prayer is that we all will look back in the next few years after passing our NCLEX & smile! God bless
