Texas Nurse needing License in Louisiana

Published

Hello everyone, I will be graduating from nursing school in December and plan no remainng in Houston to practice nursing, however I may have to temporarily move to Louisiana for certain family reasons. I know that there are "walkthrough states" and compact state, but does anyone know to obtain a RN license in states that are not compact or walkthrough states. (Louisisana being one of them). Thanks in advance

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:

You want to apply for an LA license "by endorsement" (once you have your TX license, that is). All the information you need should be on the LA BON website. Links for all the state BONs are available here, at the bottom of the page. under the "Need Help" heading.

If you will be needing the LA license before you have a TX license, you apply for licensure "by examination" (you can take the NCLEX in TX but have your results sent to LA). All necessary info should be on the LA BON website.

I used to do the same thing, and it just cost 1 month before got license of LA. Just follow the instruction on the nursing board. good luck!

Thanks for the responses
