Texas Children's Summer 2020

Published

I wanted to start this for students/first year nurses who are applying at Texas Children's for the summer 2020 cohort, the application should open end of February/March. If anyone has insight to the firm timeline, good contacts, unit specific knowledge, this would be a good place do talk about it!

I got an email from GN recruitment, guys. The application is live for exactly one week! (Feb 10 8AM) Good luck everyone!

does anyone know when we should expect to hear back?

I received an email saying early March after the units review the applicants.

Has anyone heard back from Texas Children's about their application?

Anyone know what the starting pay for an new graduate is? I know it’s $27.10/hr in Austin.

Specializes in Student.

Someone told me starting is anywhere from 26.50 to 30. Depends on the hospital!

I am a current employee and the grad nurses usually start 27.00 - 28.50. I was told by one graduate nurse that they received 0.75 raise after 6 months. The start pay may have went up a dollar because our minimum wage went up but the nurses only received a dollar raise when that happened.

Specializes in Pediatric Hem/Onc.

Hey everyone,

I am applying to TCH Summer 2021. Can anyone recommend anything that may be a resume booster for me?

Did their application place any emphases on certain areas like GPA, volunteer work, or past medical experience? Any input would be great, as I have a year to plan for a standout resume!

Good luck to everyone on the board! I'm excited for you all ❤️

I would say not to put your GPA unless it’s above a 3.5.
Any medical experience should be on your application and anything not related should be be worded to where it would be applicable for the job you are applying to.
Ex. If you worked in retail: ensured customer satisfaction, assisted with customer’s questions and concerns.... anything that would pretty much transfer to your nursing role.
My best advice is to show up to the Hospital’s open house (job fair), have 20 resume copies, and have your 1 minute pitch reheorificed and ready.
Smile, engage and network.
It is an absolutely exhausting experience but this is your chance to make a good impression, talk to them and hand deliver your resume. Most people I know that got from my cohort was because we attended the open house.

Best of luck!
