Texas BON requirements

Published

I'm doing my pre nursing in Texas and gonna apply rn in fall

But I don't know what are the requirements for take the nclex rn test, cuz I'm holding a student visa of china.

Do I need to take ToEFL and other tests before I do the licensure test?

I'm in a small college, rarely has foreign students, so teachers barely no nothing about it.

Please help me out if you get time.

Thank you so very much.

Hi,

I am assuming that you are currently in the process of finishing your nursing pre-requisites and applying for nursing school, am I correct? In which case, you should contact the school you are interested in applying to for your nursing program to find out more details about foreign student acceptance and additional exams (i.e. TOFEL) for admissions.

Also, you will become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN only after you have finished your nursing program and have met the requirements of the Texas BON. You should visit their website for more information (http://www.bon.texas.gov/olv/pdfs/rnexam.pdf).

Best wishes and good luck!

I had to Take the Toefl because I was trained in a non English speaking country. Since you are planning on going to nursing school in the US I think you don't have to take the Toefl. The best way to find out is probably to call the TX BON since they will make the decision if your are eligible for the NCLEX after you graduate. Should not be a problem as long as you go to school here. Good luck!

By the sounds of it you haven't started your RN training yet. That is going to take a bit of time so really don't have to worry about it until nearer the time. Be sure to apply for OPT at least 6 months before you graduate as this will give you chance to work for 12 months post being issued a nurse license and you find employer willing to employ you on OPT. If looking to immigrate be aware of the several years wait for a immigrant visa and that you can not stay and work without an appropriate work visa whilst waiting for immigrant visa to be processed.

Moving this to the Immigration forum as this has nothing to do with taking the actual exam
