  1. I had to Take the Toefl because I was trained in a non English speaking country. Since you are planning on going to nursing school in the US I think you don't have to take the Toefl. The best way to find out is probably to call the TX BON since they will make the decision if your are eligible for the NCLEX after you graduate. Should not be a problem as long as you go to school here. Good luck!
  2. On the Ncsbn website is a video that explains how it works. You have to be above passing standard in all categories. That doesn't mean you have to have every question answered correctly. It depends on the difficulty level of the question. If you are far above passing standard and you will get a very difficult question that if you answer it incorrectly you don't automatically fall below passing standard. You will get a slightly easier question that's still above passing standard. If you keep answering questions incorrectly you will get easier questions until you answer correctly. Then you will get a more difficult question again. Depending on if you are able to answer questions above or below passing standard you will pass or fail. Hope this makes sense.
  3. The minimum number of questions for the Nclex Pn is 85. How can it shut of at 75?
  4. I don't want to say it is 100% accurate and that it has never happened that somebody with the good pop up ended up failing. Although, everybody I know (including myself) who got the good pop up passed and I have never heard of anyone failing with the good pop up. Do you have quick results in your state? That would answer your question. But I think you can relax. I'm 99.9 % sure you passed :)
  5. Your passport will be fine. I am an foreign trained nurse as well and I didn't have any problems using my passport. In fact, more official than a passport is nearly impossible. And must be signed in English means it can't be signed in foreign letters e.g. Chinese or Arabic. Good luck!
  6. His heart rate is too slow and due to the hot weather and the work he is probably dehydrated. Alcohol in large amounts constricts blood vessels which decreases circulation and also increases the blood pressure. All that causes poor perfusion of the major organs, especially the brain. To me it sounds like a heart block that he usually tolerates but due to the circumstances, which lead to poor perfusion, he fainted.
  7. Just do the pvt, then you'll know. Everybody here says that sata q's are high level questions. But I think priority and pictures etc. Can be high level questions also. Depending on the topic. But yeah, I would do the pvt and put myself out of the misery of not knowing. It worked for me and everybody I know. Good luck to you!
  8. I recently took my BLS and ACLS and The previous poster is correct. If you are by yourself you first check for safety then assess for responsiveness, if unresponsive assess for breathing and pulse (no longer than 10 sec.), call for help and start CPR. You should shock a shockable rhythm as soon as possible. So if you have an AED available (very unlikely outside of a hospital setting) do that first. These are the guidelines of the American Heart Association. Remember: push fast, push hard.
  9. I am a foreign grad as well and studied with Kaplan, Ncsbn 3 week review, exam cram and went over the entire content with my textbooks from nursing school. I found Kaplan very helpful but it it seemed like their strategies didn't apply to all types of questions. But it definitely helped. What seemed the most useful to me was the Ncsbn review combined with content review. For meds I used my pharmacology books and an app which I downloaded from the Ncsbn website. I hope this helps. Good luck. You can do it!
  10. If I remember correctly they even mention during the tutorial before the test that you are not allowed to write down anything before the exam actually starts. Well, I hope it still works out for you. Good luck and please let us know what happened.
  11. First of all, sorry that you didn't pass. Don't live up, you can do it the next time. I think it is impossible for people who are not nurses and never had anything to do with nursing to understand what the NCLEX is about. They think it's just a multiple choice test and even when you explain how the test works they don't understand. But how could they? The important thing is, that I think your boyfriend was really trying to help. Just take it like that and not as a "he thinks I'm dumb!" it sounds like he was trying to figure out what the problem was, wether you got too nervous, tired, didn't study enough or maybe not the right way? Think about that and try to answer his question for yourself, get back on your feet and start studying. And the next time you can do it. Good luck and believe in yourself!
  12. Well, to determine the rhythm you have got to understand what all the waves and peaks etc. mean. You'll have to learn that in order to be able to determine rhythms. There are online EKG trainer but I don't think they help if you don't have the basic understanding of an EKG. Do you have study material from nursing school, that you could use?
  13. I think you need a little more specific.
  14. Ha, before I started nursing school I was an intern in a gynecologic clinic. I observed an endometrial ablation. First I felt okay, but after a couple minutes I got lightheaded and sweaty. I almost passed out and just made it out of the room in time. I had to sit down and I felt so bad. I think it was the sounds the instruments made that got me. Everybody was super nice and made me feel better. Later in my career I started working in a same day surgery clinic and we had procedures like that on a daily basis. It wasn't a problem at all. Don't feel bad. It can really happen to all of us.
  15. I don't really know, what is going on here? The OP was asking for a little support and all she gets is advice to rethink her path and that nursing school may not be for her. If it is not for her, she will figure it out. But some people just need a little longer to understand things or utilize the tools they were given. Of course, she has to work on it but I think she knows that. Would you all give up a future career just because of one problem that might not even be a real problem? Sometimes it just had to click and the problem is solved. Don't you think that famous musicians struggled at one point of their learning process, or scientist. Albert Einstein failed his math classes in school and he still became one of the best and well known physicists of all times. OP, I just want to say, don't get discouraged. Work on your weakness and get help from somebody. It is definitely not the time yet to give up. Good luck and all the best...
