I'm in my final semester of nursing, and i've waited for this for so long and now it's turning out to be a nightmare.
My fingerprints have been rejected twice as being very low quality, as in basically i have no fingerprints and so the FBI cannot run a background check on me. I've now been to Austin Twice to be fingerprinted by the central DPS office where the BNE sends their prints to, the first set was rejected by the FBI, and the second set i'm still waiting on. I've been told that this time if they are rejected, they will have to intitiate a name search, which could take 6weeks -6 months. The supervisor at the BNE told me that last year they had a candidate last year whose name search took 6 months! I'm so frustrated coz this means that i may not be able to start the June internship or even sit for NCLex. It's also more frustrating coz my background is as clear as crystal, and the Texas DPS has cleared me, and Texas is the only state i've lived in, yet that's not enough.
Has anyone else ever had such a problem?
Can new grads start internships without the GN permit?

I am moving this thread to the Texas Nursing Forum, where you may get more responses, Lulu.

It's very frustrating, isn't it? I had a small lesion on one of my fingers that prevented my first set from turning out too good. The second time I went to get printed, the police department attached a letter stating the problem and stating that these were the best prints that could be taken under the circumstances. I don't know if something like that would help you though, since you're already dealing with the folks in Austin.
If your hospital's internship includes a classroom portion, they might let you start that without the GN permit, but you'd have to discuss it with the individual hospital.
Best of luck!
Thanks Eric,
I'll ask them if i can at least start the classroom portion of it. I hope i can.
When i was submitting the first set, they did attach a letter saying that that was the best set. The second set was at the Austin DPS and it was the electronic ones which the BNE recommended.
