Hello Everybody!
Did anybody puchase a preparation CD ? I am looking for something to practise a little bit more, but the only thing I found was a "pronounciation CD". I mean, it is always good to pronounce clearly but is there s.th. like the TOEFL-CD`s?
Thanks,
nutella

I personally do not like the TSE test, much prefer the IELTS series for any of my students because you actually have an examiner directly in front of you, not a tape recorder. My biggest suggestion is to watch as many US movies as possible, this has helped my students considerably.
Hi Suzanne!
How was your holiday?
I know that the TSE is tricky, but I passed TOEFL and TWE so I have to continue with that. I like to watch movies and educational TV anyway, it helpes me to increase my vocabulary and of course I always pick up some useful phrases.
It seems to me that the main problem could be a strong accent. I will work on that , too.
However , I am lucky that I live in the US which makes it much easier as I am surrounded by English language.
I would like to get your opinion on another question:
I do everything on my own without an agency. My problem is that not every hospital sponsors GC. What do you think is best after having gotten the license? Shall I apply online for jobs and than talk about GC or is it better to call in advance to find out weather they sponsor or not? They also have job fairs several times a year. I want to apply for ICU (if possible), because I have working experience in this field. What would you suggest?
Thanks for your oppinion,

Simple answer to the first part. You are not applying for sponsorship, do not even use that word in talking about the green card. That pertained to the temporary work permits, like H1-B visas that nurses used to come on.
What you want is to be "petitioned" for a green card, completely something else.
Which city do you want to work in? You will have the easiest time to find a position at the larger teaching facilities, as they are used to immigration paperwork.
Hope that this helps........................... :)
(The time away was wonderful, thanks for asking.)

Hello Suzanne!
Oh- Thanks a lot for helping me with this stuff! "petition" and not "sponsorship"-o.k. I am not eligible for H1B anyway ( I do not have a degree which makes it impossible) and I did not realize that there are special terms .There is still a lot to learn ...
I want to work in Boston or Boston region, but I got the information that some of the bigger hospitals do not do petitions (?).

Massachusetts actually requires the TSE for licensure there as a foreign nurse, and they do not accept the IELTS series.
H1-Bs are no longer available for nurses, so it doesn't matter.......it also was a big problem for the nurse because if they did not like the facility and couldn't find another within a certain number of days, they would have to leave the country. If it ever goes back to H1-Bs being available for nurses, it would still have the same requirements as for the green card, such as the English language exams and Visa Screen. Before you could get by with just TOEFL for English requirements...............

Hallo Jnette!

So I did the right choice (TOEFL /TSE) by accident! Wow. I started with the TOEFL, the only test I ever heard about and lucky me, it is the one they want here in MA.
Actually it is good that they require some kind of spoken test, but I agree that it is much more difficult to talk to the recorder.
