Dear Nurse Beth,

I was terminated, and about to write a letter to the corporate regarding the untrue/ reason of termination. I want to complain to corporate about the unfairness of my 2 bosses. Should I tell corporate, that because of the 'injustice I felt' I'm thinking of hiring a lawyer?

Dear Terminated,

I'm sorry you were terminated. It's traumatic to be let go and it leaves a lot of feelings to sort through and process. Nurses definitely have been fired on trumped up charges.

So in deciding whether or not to write this letter, ask yourself what you hope to gain. An apology? A job offer?

The letter you are thinking about writing, saying that you plan to hire a lawyer, comes across as a threat. That is rarely a good idea. It will not make them give you your job back, and it will not make them apologize.

If you do intend to litigate, then consult an attorney to see if there's a case. If so, let them speak for you.

You can also write the letter but don't mail it. Say what you want to say, and don't hold back. Then set it aside.

Meanwhile, start looking for your next job as you don't want too long of an employment gap on your resume. Prepare to answer why you were let go. Refrain from casting any blame on your ex employer. Do not say anything negative (even if it's true) as it will backfire.

Instead say that it was not a good fit and then segue to the future. "I'm looking forward to putting my skills to good use."

Best wishes and good luck,

Nurse Beth
