Terminal degree?

There has been much discussion lately regarding the clinical doctorate programs. Has the ANCC decided on what the clinical doctorate will be or be called? Or is this still in the making?

Thanks.

The ANCC provides certification exams, although they may be part of the discussion. The academic side will determine what they want to call the clinical doctorate. As of now the doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) is the most likely to be adopted by academics as the name of the degree conferred.

Correct, prairienp. The original statement was issue by the AACN (American Association of Colleges of Nursing) in 2004. The NONPF (National Organization of Nurse Practitoner Faculties) and the AANP (American Academy of Nurse Practitioners) have joined forces to with the AACN to help define the academic preparation of the clinical doctorate program/s, to be known as, DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice).

The shift to this is slated for 2015.
