Hello all,
In the process of working on putting together an extensive Terminal Cleaning policy and procedure manual for training of Operating Room Assistant staff. I need your help. Can you provide suggestions, as well as policy ideas/examples from your facilities, and references?

You have quite a few threads asking about policies. Have you checked out AORN's Policy and Procedure templates? Also, these really need to be individualized to meet your facility's needs, such as hospital wide infection control policies and environmental services policies. Also, for some of us, posting policies would reveal at a minimum where we work, and many of us strive to remain anonymous. As for references, use AORN's Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices (most recent is best, although one edition older would probably still be okay) and Alexander's Care of the Patient in Surgery. You also state you have 8 years experience; should't you already have some experience with reading and following policies?

Please feel free to PM me if you would like to remain anonymous. My new facility does not have an established policy and procedure in place that they follow. There is no consistency in how TC's are carried out, and all rooms are not being TC'ed daily!!!Resources are limited, and change is desperately and urgently needed. Have already highlighted AORN P&P and Alexanders but meeting lots of resistance ...getting the ole..."this is the way we have always done it tune" I do feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall:banghead:. Any suggestions on how to encourage change that is needed to make us follow AORN Guidelines? Or should I just cut my losses and move on? There are some wonderful people working here just the culture for process improvement is needing a boost.
