Ten Question for an Interview..will someone answer them?

Okay - here goes:

1. What sparked your interest in nursing as a career?

Always liked caring for people.

2. What are some of your main responsibilities?

I'm an ER case manager in a busy, level one trauma center and my main duties are to help with the flow of traffic: I arrange transportation for patients, attend to social service needs, do utilization review and handle the chronic patients - attempting to get them the care they need.

3. What type of facility/environment do you work in?

I work at a not-for-profit 550 bed level one tertiary care hospital in central IL.

4. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Helping people find resources they previously didn't know existed.

5. What is the most frustrating part of your job?

Dealing with utilization review - its all computerized and I hate to sit still long enough to do it.

6. If you could make any changes to the field of nursing, what would they be?

Make us more united - a force to be reckoned with - we are own worst enemies.

7. If you had not become a nurse, what would have been your second choice?

Actually, nursing is my second career. I spent the first 10 years of my adult life in broadcast journalism.

8. Has there been an instance in your personal life where your training came in handy? (Explain?)

Oh many times. I volunteer on my rural EMS/fire dept and often am called out to help my neighbors.

9. How would you rate your overall satisfaction of your job right now?

Pretty high but only because I'm in school to change my job.

10. If you were hiring someone to be a nurse, what would you consider in your decision? (What skills or characteristics)

Sense of humor (#1), patience, genuine caring for everyone - whether they are dirty, homeless, in handcuffs.

11. Would you recommend an Associate Degree or Bachelors Degree or does it matter today?

Definitely, a BSN - I truly wish I had done that route straightaway. I did the LPN, ADN, BSN, MSN and now I'm finishing a post- MSN clinical nurse specialist. This allows you many more options as you get older.
