[color=#333333]hello!

[color=#333333] my name is natalia , russia . i'd like to determine some aspects.

[color=#333333]- i'm going to apply for a temporary registration in b.c. in the fact sheet of temporary registration said that applicants may be eligible for temporary registration if ... have b.c. employer agreeing to provide supervision. does it mean that an employer offer will be given me before i have a letter indicating that i'm eligible for temporary registration? i can't understand this moment, please, explain.

[color=#333333]-[color=#333333]how much time does it usually take to receive a letter from college, indicating that i'm eligible for temporary registration?

[color=#333333]-[color=#333333]how much time do i have after i got this letter to deal with other forms (applying for exam...)?

[color=#333333]for example, i got a letter in autumn. may i delay a process of filling up other forms up to summer?

[color=#333333]thank you.

If you fail the exam the first time that you take it, you will not be able to even work as a graduate nurse in another province until you pass that exam. You are considered a Graduate Nurse only until you take the licensing exam. Once you test, you lost the GN status. If you pass, you get the RN after your name. If you do not pass, you are usually unable to go back to the Graduate Nurse role. That is meant only as a temporary bridge until you take the exam. At least this how it is done in every other country that I am aware of, and definitely how we do things in the US.

Suggest that you contact the province directly and get their take on it.

A good news for GN who failed once in the RN exam still can obtain the temporary license in order to work as a temp. RN in BC. Here is the link http://www.crnbc.ca/downloads/454.pdf. But you have to graduate from the recognized universities in Canada. In Ontario, CNO won't let you renew your temp license once you failed the exam, which is not fair for the GNs. As a new grad, I feel the experience is more important than the exam. Allowing GNs to keep practicing and preparing the exam at the same time will be the best choice. Don't you think so? By the way, I am a new grad (BScN) from the university in Ontario, and would like to work in BC.

That is your opinion on it, but the temporary license is only good for one time in every other country that I know of and all 50 states. If you pass the exam, then you can use RN after your name, if you do not pass the exam, then you cannot work in the capacity of the graduate nurse until you pass the exam, which ever exam that it is.

I side with Ontario on this one. Most definitely. Very familiar with the nursing requirements there, and very surprised to hear that another province is not as strict as it should be. One thing to be waiting to take the exam because you are new to the country, another thing is getting a temporary license twice because someone does not pass the exam the first time. Very large difference.

Taking the devil's advocate approach to this: Why should a person be able to continue to function in the role of the nurse when they could not pass the exam the first time? Why is someone pushed to take the exam to pass it, if there is not a difference at all?

And then what happens if they do not pass the exam the second time?

Do they just move on to another province? Sorry, but I would not want someone caring for me or a family member, etc., if they did not pass their boards first. With a temporary license, mistakes can still be made, and if made, then that nurse is going to have one heck of a time to ever get a license.
