TEAS V third attempt

Published

I have take the TEAS V twice already and passed all subjects except for English... I have taken two courses in college and received an A in both classes. I don't see how I can get a 65%?

What specific topics does the test cover? Any suggestions? I have a study manual by McGraw Hill but it doesn't really help me....

Are the two college courses you have taken English classes? I used the ATI study manual, the actual exam is much easier than the practice questions.

I also used the ATI study manual. I passed on my first try but the part that was hardest for me was being timed. You also cannot skip questions during the test and that messed me up. But I got through it and so will you!

If you have taken it twice, you should know what is on it. I guess I am confused as to what you are asking. The Teas is not pass/fail, the give scores based on how you perform on it. Do you need a certain individual score in each subject? Were either of your English classes English Comp? That is usually what is required and if you got an A in it, there should be no reason you don't do well on it. I studied McGraw Hill but it was my English Comp class that really helped me.

I can relate what ytour going through right now. I'm taking the TABE third attempt. I also passed each section except for the English section and recently completed English composition class passing with an (A-) . I also have the TABE study guide doing the practice problems a lot. One thing I'm learning is these standarized test have tricks and "clue words" to help eliminate answer choices. That is what they teach in TEAS prep class, etc. They teach the tricks and process of elimination. I suggest to look up the topics covered on the teas and learn/memorize the clue words, keywords to eliminate. The good thing is most of these tests are multiple choice so one of them *are* the answers. I hope to pass my TABE exam with the new test-taking strategies. I take it in a week.

Hi there,

if the book isn't enough for you I suggest you go online and take online quizzes to test your knowledge. Did you check out this person's post on their teas experience ? https://allnurses.com/teas-exam-help/how-i-passed-804222.html

I too struggle a bit with grammar. I would use that ATI study manual. It does go into detail with explanations for answers. You probably really need to dig into the English and Language Usage section of the book. When I started preparing, I seriously could not remember anything about sentence structure. I had to scrutinze over the material to re-learn how to define a sentence as simple or complex, pronoun-antecedent agreement, etc... These are things that most learn in High School which was over twenty years ago for me! You can do it!

I will confess something too... I thought that I could sort of re-learn the english stuff by simply doing a lot of problems over and over again. Wrong! I continually did poorly on the sample tests. Why? Because I did not actually learn the underlying grammar material. Often times, the correct answer doesn't even look right. Going by "sound" or "looks" is a terrible study strategy and I learned this the hard way. Fortunately, I did the right thing before actually taking the TEAS exam and did pretty well on the grammar.

Hang in there, Samantha! You can do this!

Heather I think she means she did not pass, as in did not meet her schools percentage requirement. All schools have a different % requirement. I have an A in English 1A and I didn't get an A on my TEAS for that section. For our English 1A class it was mostly essay writing and reading/comprehension. I have not had grammar or sentence structure since the fourth grade and English may be a second language for her. The English portion of the TEAS has a lot of grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. I feel LoyalWeim is right on with her assessment of the test and how to study.
