TEAS Test + GPA to get into the nursing program

Published

Hey ya'll,

I just wanted to see if anyone else went to a school that did this weird method of nursing school selection (LPN/LVN program)

First you take the TEAS test. Then if you make the National Average (which is the minimum requirement) They take your GPA and give you points from 10-35 (10 being for people with the lowest GPA and 35 for people with the highest GPA)

Example: If a student's GPA is 3.70, he will receive 30 points. If the student's TEAS Composite Scores is 80, then 30 points will be earned. The student's combine score is 60.

And the 20 people with the highest combined scores are chosen.

Weird, to me.

Is anyone familiar with this specific way?

Lots of schools have points systems - they all seem to consider different things and give them different values, but I guess it's a quick and easy way to chose who to accept. We got up to 4 points for GPA, up to 4 points for pre-req completion, and up to 4 points for our HESI score, as long as we passed each section with a 75% or higher. List the applicants out in descending order of scores, pick the top 40 students. Easy peasy :)

Yea our school went by a point system with the TEAS test and our gpa but had a different point system.
