Hello, nurses or students studying to become nurses reading this! I am a student at Chattahoochee Technical College, currently finishing my prerequisite classes in hopes to apply for the Fall 2018 Nursing Program! I am planning on taking the TEAS test this Fall around October or November. I have been studying since June, so I hope all the long studying I have put into preparing for this test will help. The testing dates have been posted, but I have not yet registered for one yet. I am not sure if I should register or wait until Fall classes begin. I am a nervous wreck just thinking about taking this test. Can anyone give me advice on when to register and any helpful tips about being more prepared for taking the test? Also, is there any advice anyone can give when taking the test?
Thank you!

How many attempts do you have? Does your school limit you?
My school allows 2 attempts per calendar year. There has to be a 30 day period wait in between the two attempts. If my first attempt is not where I want it to be I'll have another try this year, and if I want to improve those scores or they are not where I want them to be I have 2 more attempts next year in the Spring before the application deadline.

Well, considering that you will have finished your prereqs before classes begin in the Fall (at least this is the way I take currently finishing prereqs to mean so I could be wrong) and have an idea about when you want to take the exam, then I would recommend signing up now so you do not run the risk of having all the spots taken and being stuck with an undesirable time or month. Is there any particular reason why you would wait for Fall classes to begin? Are you taking classes? If so, try to get ahold of a past syllabus for whatever class and determine the course load/potential due dates. You do not want to have the perfect storm of exams/assignments while you are about to take the exam. By scheduling ahead and knowing what date you have picked may help you to plan out things accordingly or work with a professor to move things around. Lastly, I would also take into consideration how often you want to take the exam this Fall semester. If you want to apply in the Fall, be aware of the dates you need to have everything turned in by and give yourself time to take the exam twice if so desired.
There are some awesome articles on here by some incredible people who were able to pull out various scores in the 90s. My school only accepts the first TEAS score period and offers students with the highest science GPA a chance to take the test for free. From people that I have talked to (I have yet to take mine but am equally freaking out about it), I have gathered that practice is key. A&P is a giant chunk of the science portion. I was told to purchase both practice tests from ATI and take one before I start studying or after I "finish what I think I need to study" to show me the areas I am weakest in and help me focus my studying. The second practice test is there is track improvement with the focused studying or after studying period. I heard to take it a few days before the actual exam and that they are fairly good indicators of how you may do on the actual exam. You may find yourself doing better or worse though on the actual test though. Relaxing the day or two before the test was also advised. Mindset is just as important as preparation.
It's great that you have more than one attempt. If you haven't already, I would take the practice exams offered on the ATI TEAS website. Since you've been studying since june, it will give you a good idea of where you are at. The most important thing that i've found is to emulate the test environment when you are taking the practice exam. Once you see your score on the practice exam, you'll have a better idea of what you want to do moving forward.
Thank you for replying and giving me your insight! I only have two more prerequisite classes to take, A & P ll and Microbiology. In the Fall I am taking A & P ll, then in the Spring I am taking Microbiology. I am thinking about the option on waiting to register until I get the syllabus for the Fall term, that way I can pick a date that does conflict with that class. The Kaplan Ati Teas manual is the book I am currently studying from, I am wanting to purchase one more manual, the Mometrix. I have a few friends that have studied off of this book and say it is amazing. I am wanting to take the Teas around October or November at my school, then if that score isn't where I want it to be I am going to take it after Fall semester ends, after the second week in December. My online summer class ends next week, so I will check back over the testing dates and see which one might be a good fit. Later if the date I register for is not a good fit do you know if there a way to reschedule the test for a later date?
When i took the exam, there was no way to reschedule other than registering for another exam. There are also no refunds. If you register and pay for a date, do your best to stick to it.

I would purchase the official TEAS VI study guide by ATI.
ATI TEAS Study Manual – Sixth Edition
I would also purchase an official practice exam on the ATI website so you can see exactly where your at with your studying. If there's anything I've learned in nursing school regarding ATI is to use their resources when studying.

I would take A&P separate from micro!! I love micro but it is intense amount of cycles and you need to discern between them. Either way, you'll be fine. Take a lot of practice tests!
